About the role

The Opportunity

At Visy Automation, we manage and deliver automation projects across Visy operations and customer sites, improving reliability, performance, and efficiency in high-volume manufacturing.

Our work focuses on delivering practical, scalable solutions that improve reliability, uptime, and operational efficiency. We partner closely with operations, engineering teams, and external vendors to deliver automation outcomes that align with business needs.

Due to a strong pipeline of capital and automation projects, we are seeking an Automation Projects Engineer to join our team and lead project delivery across multiple sites.

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be responsible for end-to-end project delivery, ensuring automation projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

This role is strongly focused on project management, coordination, and delivery, rather than pure programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading automation projects from concept through to commissioning
  • Defining scope, developing functional specifications, and aligning stakeholders
  • Managing project timelines, budgets, risks, and deliverables
  • Coordinating internal teams, contractors, and system integrators
  • Overseeing design, build, and implementation of automation systems
  • Ensuring compliance with safety-in-design principles and site standards
  • Supporting commissioning activities and ensuring successful project handover
  • Driving communication across stakeholders and providing clear project reporting
  • Identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement
  • Supporting feasibility studies and business case development

What You Will Bring

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering discipline
  • Experience in automation, controls, or project delivery environments
  • Proven ability to deliver projects from concept through to completion
  • Strong organisational, planning, and stakeholder management skills
  • Understanding of industrial automation systems and manufacturing environments
  • Ability to manage contractors and system integrators effectively
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability
  • Electrical licence (A-grade or restricted) advantageous
  • Experience working with PLC/SCADA systems (Rockwell, Allen-Bradley, Omron, etc.) is desirable
  • Willingness to travel occasionally

What You’ll Love When You Join Us

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Discounted health insurance and banking offers
  • Purchased annual leave
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave and keep-in-touch days
  • Novated lease and salary sacrifice options
  • Wellbeing and retail discounts
