About the role

  • Own maintenance execution at a large, fast-paced recycling facility
  • Hands-on leadership role with a highly tenured and committed team
  • Be part of Australia’s largest recycler supporting the circular economy

Visy Recycling is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to take ownership of maintenance operations at our Smithfield Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) - one of the most critical recycling sites in NSW.

More than 75% of Greater Sydney’s materials and over 50% of NSW recyclable material passes through this site. With 200+ conveyors, optical sorters, screens and balers, this is a complex, high-throughput environment that relies on strong maintenance leadership to operate safely and reliably.

This is a hands-on, visible leadership role where you’ll work closely with a small but highly capable maintenance team, ensuring preventative and corrective maintenance programs are delivered effectively in a 24/5 operating environment.

What you'll do

  • Take full ownership of maintenance systems, schedules and execution
  • Lead and support a small on-site maintenance team in a hands-on manner
  • Plan preventative and corrective maintenance to maximise plant uptime
  • Ensure critical spare parts availability and effective job planning
  • Maintain strong safety standards across all maintenance activities
  • Monitor performance and adjust maintenance priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Work closely with production teams to coordinate shutdowns and daily maintenance tasks

What You Will Bring

  • Either a Mechanical Engineering qualification or trade qualification (Fitter / Boilermaker)
  • Proven experience in maintenance leadership (Ideally at a Manager level, though significant experience at Supervisor level will also be considered)
  • Background in recycling, manufacturing, or other materials-handling environments
  • Strong safety focus and ability to work in a demanding, industrial environment
  • Practical, team-oriented leadership style with strong communication skills

What you’ll love when you join us

  • Sustainability with impact: Be part of a business powering the circular economy
  • Supportive, experienced team: Average site tenure of 15 years
  • Ownership & trust: A critical role with real responsibility and autonomy
  • Career growth: Development opportunities across Visy’s national network
  • Competitive package: including a tool of trade vehicle
  • Predictable schedule: Mon-Fri, 6am-2pm, with occasional Saturday work available (for discussion)

About Visy

Visy is powering the circular economy, closing the loop between packaging, recycling and remanufacturing. We believe materials are not truly recycled until they’re made into something new - and it all starts with Visy Recycling. As Australia’s largest recycler, our extensive network of recycling operations is integrated with our manufacturing sites. We collect and sort recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, glass, plastics and metals from households and businesses, and locally remanufacture them back into new, sustainable packaging.
