About the role

WHO WE ARE

Trustly is leading the human centric payments revolution. To us, this means passionately building the most convenient, intelligent and responsible way of paying for things online. Whether it's for shopping, paying subscriptions, funding trading accounts, booking airfare, playing online games and much more, we're all about a better way to pay. At our core, we are a tech company with industry leading tech capabilities. But it's the ingenuity of our people that makes us leaders in our field. Thus, our appetite for innovation will never be anything less than fierce. Trustly is steadily growing as it connects thousands of businesses with hundreds of millions of people. And with a strong presence across Europe and the Americas, we are leading the human centric payment revolution as a truly global team.

This role sits within the Financial Reporting and Accounting team, part of the Group Internal Finance team at Trustly, which also includes Tax, Treasury, Payroll, Finance Operations and Finance Systems. The team is dynamic and cross jurisdictional, with an ethos of collaboration and continuous improvement at its heart.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Senior Accounting Manager at Trustly, you will take ownership of the integrity of our US financial statements, lead the general ledger accounting function, and ensure full regulatory and tax compliance across our US entities. You'll manage a small team of accountants, acting as a mentor and quality control point, while also being a hands on contributor when needed.

Working in a high growth FinTech environment, you'll oversee monthly financial closings, bank and account reconciliations, variance analysis, and internal controls under US GAAP.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional looking to step into a leadership role within an innovative global payments business, building scalable financial processes and developing a growing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Month End Close Leadership: Own and oversee month end, quarter end, and year end close routines, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and intercompany reconciliations in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Financial Reporting: Review and approve balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reconciliations, ensuring variances are investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Cash & Treasury Accounting: Oversee daily bank movements and multi currency bank reconciliations, and manage working capital tracking.
  • Tax & Statutory Compliance: Lead quarterly and annual US federal, state, and local tax filings (corporate income tax, sales & use tax, commercial rent tax) in coordination with external tax advisors.
  • Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors during annual financial audits, overseeing preparation of audit schedules, documentation, and workpapers.
  • Process Improvement & Systems: Drive implementation, optimization, and automation of core financial systems (e.g. NetSuite, Workday, ERP platforms) and internal controls, including SOX readiness.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of accountants, setting priorities, reviewing work, and supporting career growth.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with US Payroll, FP&A, Accounts Payable, and Global Finance teams to streamline cross departmental financial inputs and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Education & Credentials: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA license strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Significant accounting experience, ideally combining public accounting (Big 4 or regional mid tier) with corporate accounting in Tech, FinTech, or Financial Services, including prior experience managing others.
  • Accounting Standards: Strong command of US GAAP principles, financial statement consolidation, and intercompany accounting.
  • Systems Proficiency: Hands on experience with mid to enterprise ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Workday Accounting) and advanced Excel capabilities (VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, Pivot Tables).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong familiarity with US corporate tax requirements, state tax nexus rules, and financial compliance standards.
  • Leadership & Soft Skills: Proven people management skills, meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical capability, and the ability to lead a team while operating independently in a fast paced environment.

Shape Your Role and Make an Impact

Join a dynamic environment where you can take ownership, drive change, and continuously embrace new challenges. We’re looking for dedicated and highly motivated individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy collaborating across different areas of the organisation.
