About the role

About us

The semiconductor industry’s growing demand for more powerful chips with higher bandwidth and lower power finds its solution in our technology. We connect chips to high-throughput, low-delay computing networks. Together, we can change the paradigm of how the world connects.

Our Graphene Technology team in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands, is advancing the future of semiconductor innovation through the research, development, and industrialization of graphene. Working at the intersection of materials science and semiconductor engineering, they develop graphene production, characterization, and integration processes that enable our integrated graphene photonics technology. From pioneering new process technologies to scaling production-ready solutions, the team transforms breakthrough research into the foundation of tomorrow's semiconductor devices.

The Role

Black Semiconductor is looking for a motivated Maintenance Technician (f/m/d) to join our on-site team in Zoetermeer, NL.

You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation of all technical systems that support our cleanroom environment. You will take ownership of maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities across utilities such as air handling, gas, water, and electrical systems. This position is ideal for a hands-on, mechanically minded professional who enjoys working independently, solving technical challenges, and learning new skills in a highly controlled and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe and reliable operation of cleanroom utility systems, including HVAC, supply and exhaust air, gas, water, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on cleanroom support systems, equipment in the cleanroom and incoming utility networks.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
  • Coordinate and execute maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with cleanroom standards and safety requirements.
  • Take ownership of technical challenges and proactively identify opportunities for system improvements and increased reliability.

Your Qualifications

  • Completed vocational training in a mechanical, technical, or maintenance-related field (e.g., Automotive Mechanic, Industrial Mechanic, Mechatronics Technician, or similar).
  • Practical experience working with mechanical systems and a basic understanding of electrical, pneumatic, gas, or utility systems.
  • Strong hands-on mentality with the confidence to tackle unfamiliar technical challenges and learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take full ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Problem-solving mindset, strong troubleshooting skills, and a willingness to work in a cleanroom environment with strict quality and safety standards.
  • Comfortable working hands-on across cleanroom, laboratory and facility environments, including accessing elevated areas by ladder and working in restricted spaces beneath the cleanroom when required.
  • Able to safely support physically demanding maintenance and installation activities, such as replacing HEPA filters, operating valves, positioning gas cylinders and moving heavy vacuum pumps. Appropriate handling equipment and team support will be used for heavy loads.
  • Strong communication skills in English, ideally also in Dutch to interact with externals, management and operators.

No previous semiconductor experience is required. You will receive the necessary training and support to learn the equipment and develop your technical skills.

What Success looks like

  • Take full ownership of the cleanroom utility infrastructure, ensuring the reliable operation of air handling, gas, water, exhaust, and electrical systems with minimal downtime.
  • Become a trusted technical expert within the team, proactively identifying issues, implementing practical solutions, and contributing to a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Demonstrate strong independence and accountability, confidently managing maintenance and repair activities while effectively prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Continuously expand technical knowledge and capabilities, quickly adapting to new systems and technologies while maintaining the high standards required in a cleanroom operation.
