About the role

About us

We see the semiconductor industry as a realm of possibility. We see opportunity. We see the profound impact that our graphene solutions will have in transforming the industry. We invite you to join us in driving change with our fundamentally human-centered approach, uniting bright minds around a shared vision. The vision is: Prove to everybody that you can make a fundamental change. Prove with your knowledge and skills how things can be done differently. Together, we can change the paradigm of how the world connects

About our technology

The semiconductor industry’s growing demand for more powerful chips with higher bandwidth and lower power finds its solution in our technology. We connect chips to high-throughput, low-delay computing networks. The key lies in harnessing the physical properties of graphene to combine electronic computing with photonic communication, allowing countless chips to interact almost as if they were one. Our graphene photonic innovation increases computing power and efficiency to a new order of magnitude

In short, we connect chips to create powerful and energy-efficient networks, overcoming connectivity limitations in the semiconductor industry. We deliver the graphene solution

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Facilities Engineer (f/m/d) at Black Semiconductor to provide senior-level technical leadership in the design, modification, and commissioning of semiconductor manufacturing facility infrastructure. You will play a key role in bridging front-end design intent with construction execution, commissioning, and operational readiness, ensuring that facility infrastructure meets the requirements of our semiconductor manufacturing operations.

To join our team, you should be excited to

  • Lead the design, review, and validation of mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural systems for semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop utility matrices, P&IDs, and single-line diagrams for equipment installations and tool hookups.
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, A/E firms, and equipment OEMs to ensure design intent is met.
  • Support technology migrations, new tool installations, and brownfield modifications.
  • Develop detailed cost models and capital expenditure estimates for facility projects.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior and senior engineers.

Your Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or mission-critical facility design, including a minimum of 5 years in a principal or senior technical leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical plant systems, including low- and medium-voltage (LV/MV) systems, transformers, HVAC, exhaust systems, scrubbers, compressors, and cleanrooms.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers.
  • Fluent in both English and German, with excellent communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Navisworks.
  • Proficiency in reading and preparing technical schematics, performing engineering calculations, interpreting blueprints, and understanding BMS software.
  • Experience in engineering project budget preparation, budget control, and energy cost evaluation and control.
  • Experience with FMEA and resilient design.
  • Professional registration with a recognized engineering body will be considered a plus.
