About the role

Companion Pet Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile, skilled assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to fully utilize a well-rounded clinical skillset across surgery, outpatient care, and exam room support — in one of Philadelphia's most distinctive and values-driven veterinary practices. As Philadelphia's only Fear Free Certified Practice and the only clinic in the city to simultaneously hold the AAFP Cat Friendly Practice designation, we aren't just talking about low-stress, patient-centered care — we've earned the credentials to prove it.

If those values matter to you as much as they do to us, keep reading.

We are seeking dependable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask efficiently, anticipate team needs, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering exceptional support throughout every stage of the patient visit.

  • Monitoring anesthesia and supporting patient recovery as directed by the veterinary team
  • Performing dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces

Schedule and compensation

  • Compensation: $18 - 28 per hour, for each hour worked
  • Schedule: This is a full-time position, with a flexible 4 x 10 or 5 x 8 schedule, and availability needed Monday–Friday.
  • When the hospital reopens on Saturdays, weekend shifts will rotate among staff.
  • No on-call requirements.

Full-time Benefits Package*

Why choose Companion Pet Hospital?

Companion Pet Hospital is an 8-doctor small animal practice that holds a distinction no other veterinary practice in Philadelphia can claim: we are the city's only Fear Free Certified Practice and the only clinic to simultaneously hold the AAFP Cat Friendly Practice designation. In a city of over 1.5 million people and hundreds of veterinary practices — only one has earned both. We believe patient comfort and gold-standard medicine aren't competing priorities — they go hand in hand, and everything we do reflects that.

Founded in 2009 in the heart of Pennsport, South Philadelphia, CPH has grown into a green-certified, 6,000 sq ft hospital offering daily surgery and dentistry, wellness and preventative care — all backed by a collaborative, long-tenured team that genuinely takes pride in the medicine and the culture they've built together.
