About the role

VAT – Senior Manager

Join a new and entrepreneurial VAT practice where you will have a genuine opportunity to help build something from the ground up.

As a VAT Senior Manager, you will support in the growth of our VAT practice, combining deep technical VAT expertise with client ownership, project leadership and assisting with business development. You will help shape our client offering, propositions and ways of working as the practice develops.

The work is varied and no two days are quite the same. You could be leading advice on a complex cross-border supply chain matter, overseeing a client’s VAT compliance challenge, developing a new opportunity or helping shape the future direction of the practice.

This is an opportunity to have a real voice in a growing practice. You will have significant autonomy to take ownership, develop areas of expertise and influence how we deliver VAT services, while working closely with experienced senior members of the team.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Support and oversee the delivery of complex UK and international VAT advisory and compliance engagements, providing technically robust, practical and commercially focused advice.
  • Support and oversee a varied portfolio of VAT work, determining the appropriate approach, managing delivery and identifying wider risks, opportunities and solutions for clients.
  • Support the development of CFGI’s VAT technology capability, including ERP systems, tax engines, digital reporting, automation, AI and agentic workflows, and help shape how technology is embedded into the client offering.
  • Proactively contribute on business development activity, identifying new opportunities, developing client propositions and contributing to the growth of the VAT practice.
  • Help shape the future direction of the practice, including its propositions, processes and ways of working.
  • Work closely with senior members of the team to develop the practice and identify opportunities across the broader CFGI offering.

What you must have

  • At least 9 years of VAT advisory or compliance experience gained within a professional services environment, or through a combination of practice and in-house roles.

What sets you apart

  • Strong technical VAT knowledge across UK and international VAT matters, with experience advising on complex issues.
  • Experience working across complex VAT engagements and managing delivery across multiple workstreams or stakeholders.
  • Proficient in translating complex technical VAT matters into clear, practical and commercially focused advice.
  • Having worked on a varied portfolio of advisory and compliance work and determining appropriate approaches to client challenges.
  • Willingness to contribute to the development of new propositions, processes or ways of working.

Nice to have

  • Experience with tax technology, including ERP systems, tax engines, digital reporting, automation, AI or agentic workflows.
  • Broad international indirect tax experience.
  • Experience across both professional practice and an in-house environment.

Who thrives here

  • Someone who takes ownership and wants to influence the direction of a growing practice.
  • Enjoyment of building something new and entrepreneurial.
  • Someone who combines technical expertise with a commercial mindset.
  • Comfortable with autonomy, responsibility and a varied workload.
  • Someone who enjoys developing client relationships and working with senior stakeholders.
