About the role

Accounting Manager – Internal

As an Accounting Manager, you will be part of the internal accounting team and play a key role in the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the organization's financial reporting. This position combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with oversight of key processes and team activities, including the month-end close, intercompany accounting, accounts payable, and fixed assets. Payroll accounting is also a core part of the role, including accounting oversight of payroll and general oversight of the payroll team. As a growing company expanding into new international markets, we need a versatile, hands-on team member who can act as a utility player, picking up new projects, including M&A integrations and purchase accounting, and helping wherever the accounting team needs support. The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the month-end close process, including the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
  • Oversee intercompany transfer pricing calculations and the preparation and recording of related intercompany billings, ensuring accuracy and consistency with established policies.
  • Manage the intercompany close process, including reconciling intercompany balances, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring intercompany activity is eliminated accurately and on time.
  • Oversee the accounting and general ledger recording of payroll, including reviewing payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and account activity for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate classification.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, review, and oversight to accounting team members, helping ensure work is completed accurately, completely, and on time.
  • Oversee the accounts payable and expense reimbursement processes, including the timely resolution of issues and maintenance of appropriate controls.
  • Maintain and review cash flow forecasting to support effective financial planning and decision-making.
  • Provide general oversight of the payroll team to confirm payroll activities are completed accurately and timely, while promptly identifying and escalating errors, missed deadlines, or control concerns.
  • This role does not process payroll and is not responsible for payroll tax calculations, deposits, filings, returns, or related compliance activities.
  • Oversee the organization's fixed assets, ensuring proper accounting, depreciation, reconciliation, and asset tracking.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare accurate and timely financial reports and resolve accounting matters.
  • Coordinate with the payroll team and other stakeholders to obtain the information needed for period-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Monitor financial controls, reporting processes, and compliance with applicable accounting standards; recommend and implement process improvements where appropriate.
  • Support external audits by coordinating requests, reviewing supporting documentation, and helping ensure timely and complete responses.
  • Document and maintain business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls and promote consistent execution.
  • Support the company's international expansion by helping with accounting needs in new countries, such as new entity setup, multi-currency accounting, and local reporting requirements, and take on special projects and new areas of work as the business grows.
  • Play a key role in M&A activity, including integrating acquired entities into the company's accounting processes and systems and assisting with purchase accounting, including opening balance sheet entries and related analysis.

What you must have

  • Thorough knowledge of general financial accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations, intercompany accounting, and internal controls.
  • Ability to review payroll-related accounting and general ledger activity without responsibility for payroll processing or payroll tax compliance.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience reviewing the work of others or leading accounting processes.
  • Prior experience with payroll accounting, payroll journal entries, and payroll-related account reconciliations preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with M&A integrations or purchase accounting is a plus.
  • Experience with general ledger systems and Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills.

Who thrives here

  • Strong leadership, review, and team-management skills, with the ability to set priorities and hold team members accountable for accurate and timely work.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve issues proactively.
  • Flexibility and willingness to help where needed, including taking on new projects and unfamiliar areas as the business grows and expands internationally.
