About the role

LA28 does not provide relocation assistance for any positions.

If you are based outside the Los Angeles area, we still welcome your application — we value talent from all geographic backgrounds and want to hear from you if you are able to work on-site in LA.

Role Purpose

As Senior Manager, Torch Relay Communications, you define and lead the communications strategy for the LA28 Torch Relay from concept through execution. You are the trusted advisor guiding how the relay engages government, civic, and media stakeholders at every stop, while staying aligned with the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees. Leading crisis communications and rapid response, you keep a highly visible national event on message, coordinating daily across a large, diverse ecosystem of partners as the route takes shape across the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the end-to-end communications strategy for the Torch Relay from concept through full execution.
  • Negotiate with federal, state, and municipal government while aligning closely with the IOC and IPC throughout.
  • Lead crisis communications and rapid-response strategy for a highly visible, nationally significant public event.
  • Set the credentialing strategy and approval process for media and stakeholders across every stop on the route.
  • Coordinate daily communications across a large, diverse ecosystem of internal and external stakeholders and partners.

Required Competencies

  • Proven experience (7+ years) leading communications strategy for complex, high-visibility public campaigns or nationally significant events.
  • Deep skill navigating political dynamics across all levels of federal, state, and municipal government and civic institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead crisis communications and rapid response under sustained national scrutiny and intense time pressure.
  • Proven track record of media relations with national and local outlets across a campaign-style, multi-market national operation.
  • A collaborative mindset for aligning outside partners and internal teams toward shared goals, on time and on message.

Valued Experience

  • Experience managing agencies or consultants to extend campaign reach.
  • Familiarity with IOC and IPC expectations for major international events.
  • Experience with media and stakeholder credentialing at large scale.
  • Background in multi-state tours or nationally scaled, moving events.

What We Offer

  • The chance to help deliver a historic Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
  • A collaborative, inclusive culture guided by optimism, integrity, excellence, and boldness.
  • Meaningful, visible work at the heart of a once-in-a-generation moment.
  • Room to grow and shape new work in the years before the Games.

What This Role Means for the Games

You set the tone for how the nation meets the Torch Relay at every stop. Leading with optimism, integrity, and boldness, you protect and advance a highly visible story, ensuring the Olympic and Paralympic Movements reach communities across the country clearly, inclusively, and on message.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office, with travel to relay stops and event locations as needed.
  • The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.
  • The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.
  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.
  • Perform other duties as required; the role will evolve over time and may include operational responsibilities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
