About the role

About Us

The more AI does, the more people want to be in the same room. The retirement party. The rehearsal dinner. The offsite where a team that has only met over video finally sits at one table.

Someone has to make those gatherings happen, and today that person is drowning. Private events and group dining are an $80 billion market in the United States, and most of it still runs on email chains and spreadsheets or legacy software.

At Perfect Venue we are on a mission to bring communities together by making it effortless to plan events. We combine intuitive software with AI agents that make it easy for venues to increase sales, save hours every week, and bring their communities together.

We are backed by top investors and operators like the Hustle Fund, Defy.vc, Amity Ventures and are used by thousands of venues nationwide from Michelin star restaurants to your favorite bar.

The role

We're looking for a senior backend engineer who enjoys building useful product features and operating the systems behind them. You'll work on our application, APIs, data models, integrations, and background jobs, while sharing responsibility for our cloud infrastructure with our engineering lead.

Application development is the primary focus of this role. You'll also bring practical experience keeping production services reliable, reviewing infrastructure changes, and investigating issues across application and cloud boundaries.

What you'll do

  • Deliver customer-facing features from product discussion through release and iteration.
  • Own backend features from technical design through implementation, testing, release, and maintenance.
  • Build reliable APIs, integrations, and background processing for customer workflows.
  • Improve database queries, application performance, and failure handling as the product grows.
  • Work with our engineering lead to maintain AWS infrastructure and review Terraform changes.
  • Investigate production incidents, improve monitoring and recovery procedures, and document what the team needs to operate services confidently.
  • Collaborate with product and frontend engineers on practical solutions, and support teammates through code reviews and mentoring.

What you'll bring

  • Experience independently delivering and maintaining backend features in a production web application.
  • Strong proficiency in a backend language and web framework, such as Rails, Django, Laravel, Node.js, .NET, or a comparable stack.
  • Strong relational database and SQL skills, including data modeling, query performance, and transactions.
  • Experience designing APIs and handling asynchronous processing, integration failures, and retries.
  • Hands-on experience deploying, troubleshooting, and operating applications on AWS or another major cloud platform, including working with permissions, networking, and application configuration.
  • Experience reviewing and changing infrastructure as code using Terraform or a comparable tool.
  • A practical approach to automated testing, safe releases, production debugging, and communicating technical tradeoffs.
  • Experience helping other engineers through feedback, technical guidance, or mentoring.

Helpful experience

  • Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL.
  • AWS and Terraform specifically.
  • GraphQL, third-party integrations, and SaaS business workflows.
  • Backup and recovery practices, observability, and application security.
  • Enough frontend experience to collaborate comfortably in a React/TypeScript application.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation including meaningful equity you’ll actually be able to use
  • Medical, vision, and dental with paid premiums for you, cost-sharing for dependents
  • Flexible PTO & 401(k)
  • Daily lunches when onsite
  • Unlimited book budget
  • Company laptop
  • Complimentary One Medical membership for you and your family
