About the role

Road Safety Technology Operator Team Leader | Lead Field Operations

You will build and create the Road Safety Technology Operator (RSTO) team in the ACT, running the deployment of Acusensus enforcement trailers and vehicles that detect dangerous driving. Your work supports enforcement programs that help reduce road trauma.

About us

Acusensus is an organisation founded with a simple but compelling belief, that nobody should die on our roads. We build the technology that detects the Fatal Five dangerous driving behaviours; speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt non-compliance, fatigue, and drug or alcohol impairment and supports the enforcement programs that change them. We delivered the world’s first mobile phone detection program in New South Wales and the world’s first automated mobile device and seatbelt program in Queensland. Now we are building a new team in the ACT after recently winning a contract.

The Opportunuty

As RSTO Team Leader, you lead our ACT field operations team and act as a key representative for Acusensus. You will mentor your team, coordinate deployments and make sure every activity meets our standards for safety, compliance and quality.

What you’ll do:

  • Build a lead a new team of 12 Enforcement Trailer Operators (ETO) and Mobile Speed Camera Operators (MSCO) across recruitment, development, performance management, training, timesheets, rostering, and WHS compliance and reporting.
  • Roster and coordinate trailer and vehicle deployments with Help Desk and Roster Coordinator.
  • Troubleshoot and carry out in-field maintenance and technical support of deployed systems.
  • Deliver training and accreditation to the team
  • Attend court on behalf of Acusensus and enforcement operators when required.
  • Mentor future leaders in the RSTO team
  • Contribute to R&D testing and deployment where asked.
  • Work within our quality, safety, information security and environmental management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 14001).

To be upfront about the demands: the work is outdoors in all weather, includes early starts, evenings or weekends when deployments need it, and involves short-notice domestic travel for short periods.

Requirements

About you

You are safety-conscious, a people leader who understands the needs of a team out in the field, and you care about road safety.

You’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and coaching a field or technical team.
  • A full, current driver’s licence, an exceptionally good driving record and a current WHS White Card.
  • The ability to safely tow and reverse heavy trailers, with the mechanical awareness to tow a 2,000kg trailer and do minor maintenance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking to keep to the deployment roster,
  • Sound computer literacy
  • An analytical, problem-solving mindset.
  • Willingness to represent Acusensus with courts and road authorities if needed
  • Year 12, HSC, SSCE or equivalent.

Road safety and pre-employment checks

We build technology to make roads safer. That mission doesn’t stop when we leave for the day, it shows up every time we get behind the wheel of a vehicle to be role model drivers. An employment offer is subject to a criminal history check and a driving history check, plus any further checks needed to meet the obligations of our clients.

Benefits

Why join us

  • Work that saves lives. Our technology supports enforcement programs aimed at the Fatal Five behaviours. You will see the work happen at the roadside and know what it is for.
  • Real leadership scope. You will have end-to-end responsibility for a state-based field team, from recruitment and rostering through to performance, training and WHS.
  • Hands-on technical work. You will troubleshoot deployed systems in the field, contribute to R&D testing where asked, and train and accredit operators.
