About the role

Consultant Psychiatrist / Staff Specialist Psychiatrist

Regional Coastal Queensland

We are currently representing a well-established public mental health service in regional coastal Queensland seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist / Staff Specialist Psychiatrist to join its growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a rewarding role within a supportive health service that offers strong clinical variety, genuine lifestyle benefits, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in a regional community.

This position would suit psychiatrists looking for a relaxed coastal lifestyle, a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, and a service where your contribution will be genuinely valued.

International psychiatrists are encouraged to apply.

Doctors who have been assessed by RANZCP and hold a Substantially Comparable outcome are strongly encouraged to get in touch.

The Opportunity

You will join a contemporary mental health service delivering care across inpatient, community, and acute settings, supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team. The broader health service supports a large regional catchment and is based across two major hospitals in a thriving coastal region of Queensland.

The service offers a broad and interesting scope of practice, with exposure to a diverse patient population and the opportunity to work closely with fellow specialists, junior medical staff, nursing teams, allied health, and community mental health clinicians. There is strong focus on service development, patient-centred care, and professional collaboration.

About the Health Service

This is a large regional public health service with modern facilities and a strong reputation for delivering high-quality care to its local communities. The psychiatric service is well supported and forms part of a broader integrated mental health network across the region. You will be joining a department that values teamwork, clinical governance, and ongoing service improvement, while offering the kind of work-life balance that can be difficult to find in metro settings.

Why consider this role?

This coastal regional location offers the best of both worlds: a rewarding consultant role within a substantial public service, and an excellent lifestyle outside of work. The area offers:

  • A beautiful coastal setting with easy access to beaches and outdoor activities
  • A medium-sized town feel with all essential amenities close at hand
  • Good schools, shopping centres, cafes, and family-friendly neighbourhoods
  • Affordable living compared with major metropolitan centres
  • A welcoming community and a more relaxed pace of life
  • Easy access to Brisbane via regular flights

Whether you are relocating from overseas or looking to move out of a capital city, this is an opportunity to build a fulfilling long-term career in a location where you can truly enjoy your downtime.

Requirements

To be considered, you will need to hold, or be eligible for, registration with AHPRA.

We are particularly interested in speaking with:

  • Psychiatrists assessed as Substantially Comparable by the relevant Australian college
  • Psychiatrists already holding specialist registration, or those progressing through the specialist pathway
  • Candidates with a genuine interest in regional practice and multidisciplinary mental health care
