About the role

The Opportunity

As the Principal Advisor Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you will be the organisation's subject matter expert and trusted adviser on workplace health, safety and wellbeing.

Your immediate focus will be to progress QLeave's current health and safety portfolio by strengthening the way we identify, assess and manage psychosocial and physical risks across the organisation. You'll work closely with leaders to build confidence and capability, ensuring health and safety responsibilities are understood, practical and embedded into everyday decision-making.

This role sits within the People, Culture and Capability team and combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You'll have the opportunity to develop contemporary frameworks and tools and drive initiatives that support both employee wellbeing and organisational performance.

Key Capabilities and Responsibilities

In this role, you will

  • Provide functional leadership and specialist advice across QLeave's health, safety and wellbeing portfolio.
  • Build organisational capability in psychosocial risk assessment and hazard identification.
  • Partner with leaders to develop practical solutions that improve safety, wellbeing and compliance outcomes.
  • Strengthen health and safety governance, reporting and assurance practices.
  • Develop and implement contemporary policies, procedures, tools and resources.
  • Drive initiatives that promote a positive safety culture, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor emerging risks, legislative changes and industry best practice to ensure QLeave remains responsive and proactive.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an influential and practical WHS expert who can engage our people and build their capability.

You'll be someone who can balance governance and compliance requirements with the realities of a small organisation, translating complex legislative obligations into sustainable solutions.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in workplace health, safety and wellbeing leadership, advisory or specialist roles.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary WHS practices, particularly psychosocial risk management.
  • The ability to influence, coach and build capability across all leadership levels.
  • Experience developing frameworks, policies, systems and practical tools that drive positive outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.

Whilst not mandatory, qualifications in workplace health and safety and/or rehabilitation and return to work coordination will be highly regarded.

Conditions and Benefits

  • Convenient North Brisbane location
  • Competitive salary with up to 12.75% superannuation contributions.
  • Generous leave entitlements, including annual leave loading.
  • Flexible work arrangements and a commitment to employee well-being.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
