About the role
Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are the rare unicorn that has grown fast and profitably. We received $515m in funding and are executing a multi-$B expansion plan for one of the greenest forms of tech manufacturing: converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy.
We are seeking an ambitious, skilled, and versatile Metrology Engineer to join our team in Zaragoza, Spain.
In this position, you will play a key role in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of metrology and optical inspection systems. You will develop measurement and image analysis solutions to characterize physical dimensions, surface properties, and defects at various stages of the manufacturing process.
The role combines experimental metrology, computer vision, data analysis, and measurement system development, with a strong focus on improving the performance and reliability of inspection tools deployed in production.
You will be part of an experienced team of mechanical, electrical, and materials engineers, working closely with our R&D metrology team and manufacturing operations across our facilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize measurement routines for 2D and 3D characterization, including physical dimensions, surface roughness, flatness, and defect detection.
- Develop, test, and maintain computer vision and image analysis solutions for optical inspection and defect identification.
- Perform measurement data collection, processing, and analysis to support process development, troubleshooting, and manufacturing improvements.
- Improve the reliability, performance, and automation of metrology systems, including monitoring data integrity and supporting standardized deployment and validation procedures.
- Collaborate with R&D, process engineering, production teams, and equipment vendors to define measurement requirements, evaluate inspection technologies, and improve tool capabilities and throughput.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related scientific or technical field, with approximately 5+ years of relevant experience; alternatively, a Master's degree with 3+ years or a PhD with 1+ year of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience in experimental metrology, optical inspection, dimensional measurement, materials characterization, or related measurement and inspection applications.
- Experience with computer vision and image analysis techniques for measurement, inspection, or defect detection. Knowledge of machine learning or deep learning applications is a plus.
- Experience with Python or a similar programming language for data processing, analysis, and automation, including the ability to work with experimental or measurement datasets.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment. Professional proficiency in English is required.
