About the role

TARGETED VACANCY

Government employees only.

Your opportunity

Shape policy and legislation that supports the effective regulation of Queensland's Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance scheme. As Manager Policy, you will lead complex policy initiatives, develop practical options for emerging issues and provide trusted strategic advice to the Minister, the Insurance Commissioner and senior leaders.

This is a temporary nine-month opportunity, with the possibility of extension, within the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC), a statutory body within Queensland Treasury. You will work across government and with industry and community stakeholders, while collaborating with the National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland Agency on shared strategic policy priorities.

In this role, you will

  • Research and analyse complex CTP policy issues and provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Minister, Insurance Commissioner and senior management.
  • Lead significant policy and legislative initiatives through Cabinet, Executive Council and Parliamentary processes, meeting relevant governance requirements and timeframes.
  • Deliver policy and legislative projects through effective consultation and negotiation with agencies, industry stakeholders and community groups.
  • Prepare and oversee high-quality Cabinet submissions, briefing notes, discussion papers, speeches, Parliamentary material, correspondence and reports.
  • Represent MAIC at industry forums and interdepartmental working groups on matters of strategic importance to the CTP scheme.
  • Contribute to business planning, performance review and continuous improvement across MAIC.

What experience you will bring

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise and influential advice for senior and ministerial audiences.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, CTP legislation and issues affecting Queensland's statutory insurance scheme.
  • Demonstrated experience progressing legislative amendments through Cabinet, Executive Council and Parliament would be advantageous.
  • The ability to think strategically, make considered and ethical decisions, and understand the broader system and policy context.
  • A strong record of driving accountability and quality outcomes while applying sound governance and risk-management practices.

There are no mandatory qualifications for this role. Relevant qualifications will be highly regarded.
