About the role

Put your construction or maintenance knowledge to work and build your roadworks inspection career with Transport and Main Roads in Cloncurry.

In this permanent, full-time OO4 Inspector role, you will help ensure road construction and maintenance works meet the quality, safety and environmental requirements that regional communities rely on. Join the North West District team and contribute to the road network that connects regional and remote Queensland communities.

About the role

Your work will span new construction, routine and programmed maintenance, rehabilitation and third-party road corridor works. Supporting the Superintendent, you will develop your understanding of contracts, contractors' construction methods and the planned sequence of works.

You will inspect contractors' work, temporary traffic management, quality, environmental controls and safety to assess compliance with specifications, legislative requirements and contract conditions. Accurate diaries, test results, photographs and reports will be an important part of your work, along with regular updates on project progress.

With guidance, you will identify road hazards and defects and help prioritise appropriate treatments. You will also participate in disaster preparedness, learn about post-flood road reopening procedures, inspect utility and developer works, and investigate public enquiries and road corridor issues as directed.

Build your skills

Through practical experience and participation in the Roadworks Inspector Career Development Program, you will develop your inspection skills and understanding of road construction and maintenance contracts. This is an opportunity to apply your existing knowledge while building capability across a varied range of roadworks and network activities.

About you

You bring knowledge of construction or maintenance practices relevant to transport infrastructure, a willingness to learn and a constructive approach to solving problems. You can build productive working relationships, support your teammates and make considered decisions.

A current Class C driver licence is mandatory. A Certificate III in Civil Construction, or the ability to rapidly acquire it, is desirable.

Working in Cloncurry

Based in the warm heart of the outback, you will gain experience across the North West District and see how your work contributes to infrastructure that matters to local communities. Alongside professional development, the role offers location benefits and rural and remote incentives outlined below and in Appendix A of the role description.

If you enjoy practical work, working with others and seeing tangible outcomes, we encourage you to apply.

What's on offer:

  • Housing assistance under the Rural and Remote Area Incentive Scheme, subject to eligibility and conditions.
  • Career development through the Roadworks Inspector Career Development Program.
  • OO4 salary of $2,965-$3,245 per fortnight, plus superannuation and leave loading.
  • Five weeks' recreation leave, giving you additional time to recharge.
  • RRAIS benefits outlined in Appendix A include an annual attraction and retention payment of 10% of superannuable income, reimbursement of 75% of energy costs, concessional travel and education/internet assistance, specialist medical & dental leave, subject to eligibility and applicable conditions.
