An excellent opportunity is available for a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join a well-established regional public hospital in South Australia. This is an opportunity to take on a senior clinical role within a busy Emergency Department, providing high-quality emergency care while contributing to clinical leadership, education and service development.

The hospital is a major regional referral centre serving a population of more than 67,000 people, as well as communities across the nearby Victorian border. The service provides a broad range of acute and emergency healthcare, making it an important part of the region’s healthcare network.

With multiple permanent vacancies available, this role offers flexibility for consultants seeking either full-time or part-time employment within a supportive regional healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, high-quality emergency care to patients presenting with a broad range of acute and complex conditions.
  • Provide senior clinical oversight, leadership and supervision to junior medical officers and trainee doctors.
  • Apply advanced skills in resuscitation, airway management, circulatory support and the assessment of critically unwell patients.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, clinical audits, teaching and research activities.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.
  • Support the ongoing development of emergency services within a regional setting.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM).
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, including the management of critically unwell patients.
  • Strong clinical judgement and advanced resuscitation skills.
  • A commitment to clinical leadership, teaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • An interest in contributing to the delivery and continued development of emergency care in a regional community.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Competitive remuneration: An indicative total remuneration package of $479,215–$623,712 per annum, depending on applicable arrangements and eligibility. The package may include base salary, superannuation, allowances, professional development and private practice arrangements where applicable.
  • Relocation assistance: Relocation reimbursement of up to $13,000 may be available to eligible candidates.
  • Flexible employment: Permanent full-time and part-time opportunities are available, supporting a range of lifestyle and professional needs.
  • Professional development: Access to education and training opportunities, alongside opportunities to participate in teaching, research and service improvement.
  • Supportive workplace: Join a collaborative multidisciplinary team committed to quality patient care, staff wellbeing and continuous improvement.
  • Additional benefits: Salary packaging options, employee assistance programs and wellbeing initiatives may be available.

Lifestyle and Location

The region offers an appealing alternative to metropolitan living, combining a relaxed lifestyle with access to a range of outdoor activities and essential amenities.

  • Coastal lifestyle: Enjoy beautiful beaches, excellent fishing, sailing and surfing opportunities, with the coastline providing plenty of options for weekend recreation and relaxation.
  • Affordable living: Compared with many major Australian cities, regional living can offer more accessible housing options and the opportunity to enjoy a more spacious lifestyle.
  • Outdoor adventures: Explore nearby national parks, walking trails, sporting facilities and scenic landscapes, ideal for those who enjoy an active lifestyle.
  • Community connection: Experience a welcoming regional community with local sporting clubs, cultural activities, cafes and restaurants.
  • Family-friendly amenities: Access quality education facilities, including schools, TAFE and university campuses, as well as a range of community services.
  • Convenient travel: The region is located approximately midway between Melbourne and Adelaide, providing access to both major cities while allowing you to enjoy the benefits of regional living.
