Ko wai mātou – About us

Kia ora. We’re Foodies. You know New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square, right? That’s us!

With 300+ stores and over 27,000 Foodies across Te Ika-a-Māui, our North Island Co-op has the privilege of helping New Zealanders get more out of life. Locally owned, we reflect the communities we serve, and we celebrate our people, our taonga, every day for being uniquely them.

Te Tūranga – About the role

This is a highly influential, store-based role where you’ll partner closely with bakery teams to identify business opportunities, develop practical solutions and deliver positive outcomes. Reporting to the Bakery Lead, you’ll use your bakery expertise, commercial understanding and coaching capability to lift operational performance across our stores.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Coaching and mentoring Bakery Team Leaders and their teams to strengthen capability and performance
  • Conducting regular store visits, preparing comprehensive business reports and identifying opportunities through business and trend analysis
  • Supporting stores to meet health, safety and food safety standards, including expectations set for food retailers and wholesalers
  • Completing Technical Sign Offs for Trainee Operators, while supporting new store setups and refurbishments
  • Helping stores implement business strategies and improve bakery operations, ranging, sourcing, pricing and promotional activity

Ngā painga – What we offer

We’re committed to providing awesome experiences for our people, including offering a range of benefits:

  • Tool of trade vehicle and competitive salary
  • Free carparking, including access to EV plugs
  • Southern Cross health insurance and 5% discount at our retail stores
  • Flexible working options, a day off on your birthday and long service leave
  • In-house learning and development programmes and courses, flu vaccinations and social network groups, which we call Tribes

He kōrero mōu – About you

You’re an experienced bakery professional who understands what great retail bakery operations look like and knows how to bring others on the journey. You’ll combine operational knowledge with strong communication, commercial thinking and close attention to detail.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience managing a bakery department in a retail organisation and/or a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Experience in business analysis, identifying trends and recognising potential operational issues
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation and mediation skills, along with FMCG experience
  • Exposure to operational or fresh food management, including ranging, sourcing, pricing and promotions
  • Experience in category management for medium to large merchandise brands, with strong attention to operational detail.
  • A full driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly

Experience awesome. Achieve awesome. Be awesomely you.

We’re proud to have a focus on Diversity & Inclusion here at Foodies and welcome courageous behaviour, encourage togetherness and inspire our people to be their best selves in our Foodies whānau.
