About the role

At the University of Canberra, we believe our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. We are committed to building a workplace where people feel respected, included, safe and empowered to contribute their best. The People and Culture team supports the University's vision by creating contemporary people practices, programs and systems that foster a positive, productive and inclusive workplace.

The Workplace Inclusion and Access Specialist is a newly created position within our People and Culture team, reporting to the Capability and Culture Manager. You will be part of a passionate team, with the opportunity to bring your ideas, experience and expertise to a role that you can truly make your own.

Working collaboratively with leaders, staff and key stakeholders across the University, you will lead work that strengthens inclusion and accessibility and compliance with our workplace inclusion obligations. From developing frameworks and action plans to providing expert advice and identifying opportunities for improvement, your work will help shape inclusive, culturally safe and compliant practices across the University.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong sense of integrity and a genuine appreciation for the importance of good governance and compliance. You will enjoy bringing structure and rigour to your work, while taking a practical and collaborative approach to helping the University meet its obligations.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Experience developing, implementing or advising on inclusion, diversity, compliance, governance or policy initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks relating to workplace inclusion, equity, accessibility or employment.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategies, action plans and governance frameworks that drive organisational objectives and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Consultative and collaborative approach, building trusted relationships with stakeholders across the University and external regulatory bodies to achieve strategic and compliance outcomes.
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing reports, briefings and recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Experience managing projects and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Passion and commitment to inclusion, cultural safety, accessibility and belonging.

Not sure how your skills and experience align with the role and want to discuss your interest? We are keen to hear from you, contact Abbey via the details provided below. Recognising people communicate and process information differently, we support multiple ways to participate in the recruitment evaluation. For reasonable adjustment, please reach out to Abbey or the UCTalent team.

Being a values based organisation, UC sets a goal to be the national sector leader in equity, diversity, inclusion and access via our Reconnected Strategy. UC encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, neurodiversity and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
