Job Description

The Virginia Tech College of Science is seeking a visual storyteller. Untold stories abound in the college: Students engaging in hands-on work in classrooms, our faculty’s innovative teaching, or our researchers. We’re looking for someone who can show-not-tell us these stories.

We’re looking for a creative, collaborative, visual storyteller to join our Marketing and Communications team. The Visual Content Creator will envision, produce, capture, edit, and distribute compelling photo and video content that showcases the impact of the college.

This position serves as both the college’s primary visual storyteller and social media coordinator: The Visual Content Creator will produce multimedia content from concept to completion. They will identify storytelling opportunities, capture photography and video in a wide variety of settings and edit content for multiple platforms. Projects include short-form social videos and reels, documentary-style storytelling, event photography, recruitment and promotional videos and social media campaigns.

The Visual Content Creator will oversee the day-to-day management and growth of the college’s social media channels by developing platform-specific strategies, publishing content, monitoring trends and performance, and collaborating with university social media teams and college communicators.

The Visual Content Creator will work independently on many assignments while partnering with faculty, staff, students, and university partners to develop visual stories that support strategic communications, recruitment, advancement, research visibility, and public engagement. In this position, strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset go a long way.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple projects and timelines while maintaining high standards for creativity, technical quality, and strategic impact.
