About the role

Salary up to £60,000 FTE depending on experience

Looking for a role that fits around your life without compromising on clinical standards, support or job satisfaction? Eden Veterinary Centre is looking for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team in Carlisle on a part-time basis. We are in a great position to be able to offer this as a consulting only position.

With a supportive team, excellent facilities and a genuine focus on work–life balance, this is a great opportunity to find a role that works for you while continuing to enjoy your clinical career.

What You’ll Be Stepping Into

Ideally, we’re looking for someone to work between 18 & 21 hours per week over 3 days, with flexibility to discuss a working pattern that suits you. Whether you prefer consulting, surgery or a mixture of both, there’s scope to shape the role around your interests, with a varied first-opinion caseload, clinical freedom and 1 in 4 Saturday mornings.

We’re looking for a vet with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience who is passionate about delivering high-quality, contextualised first-opinion care. You’ll enjoy building relationships with clients and their pets, working collaboratively with the team and continuing to develop your clinical skills. We’ll support you with certificate funding, tailored CPD, regular case discussions and a strong nursing team, giving you the freedom and encouragement to pursue your interests while delivering excellent patient care.

The Team & Facilities

You’ll be joining a collaborative team of 5 vets, including our Clinical Lead, 6 RVNs, 2 SVNs, a Veterinary Care Assistant, an experienced reception team and our Practice Director. We’re a nurse training practice and actively encourage development at every level, with regular case discussions and team meetings to share knowledge, support one another and continue improving our clinical standards.

We’ve recently moved into a brand-new, purpose-built practice, designed to provide an excellent clinical environment for both our team and patients. Our facilities include:

  • Two surgical theatres equipped with diathermy, laparoscopy, ventilation and a range of orthopaedic equipment.
  • A dedicated dental suite with dental X-ray.
  • An imaging suite with digital radiography and high-specification ultrasound.
  • Comprehensive in-house laboratory and patient monitoring equipment.
  • Patient warming facilities, a dog-friendly environment, ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic status and a lovely staff room.

Our ethos is simple: we treat every pet as if they were our own. We’re proud to provide compassionate, high-quality care in a close-knit practice where every team member feels valued, supported and encouraged to develop.

Life in Carlisle

Based on the edge of the stunning Lake District, Carlisle offers a fantastic balance of city convenience and outdoor adventure. With the fells and lakes, Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders all within easy reach, it’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors and make the most of your time away from work.

How We’ll Support You

At inspiring vet care, we’re committed to supporting your ongoing development and wellbeing. When you join us, you’ll benefit from:

  • Clear career pathways with progression opportunities across primary care, referral, leadership, and specialist roles
  • Funded learning and development including CPD allowance and access to IVC academy training centres & role-relevant courses
  • £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet
  • Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches, and peer networks
  • Support to develop clinical interests and expand your capabilities
  • A collaborative, values-led culture focused on care, community, and continuous improvement

What We Offer Our Team

  • 6.8 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays
  • Private medical insurance
  • Enhanced family leave and pay across maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy
  • BVA membership, VDS cover & RCVS fees
  • Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies)
