About the role

What your day could look like

As an Undergraduate Student in Midwifery, you'll help deliver safe, person-centred care that supports positive experiences for women, babies and families. From contributing to day-to-day maternity care to working alongside experienced clinicians, you'll be part of a team focused on achieving the best possible outcomes across pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

Every day, you'll contribute by:

  • Supporting women and newborns through delegated care activities that promote comfort, wellbeing and positive health outcomes.
  • Working closely with midwives and multidisciplinary teams to ensure care is delivered safely, respectfully and collaboratively.
  • Monitoring and reporting observations that help inform clinical decisions and support high-quality maternity care.
  • Contributing to a safe, organised and welcoming care environment that enhances the experience of patients and families.

Let's Talk About You

You're someone who is passionate about midwifery and eager to grow your skills through hands-on experience. You bring compassion, integrity and respect to every interaction, while having the confidence to learn, ask questions and work collaboratively. You take pride in contributing to meaningful moments in people's lives and are motivated by the opportunity to support women and families during their maternity journey.

Here's what will help you thrive in this role:

  • Currently undertaking an NMBA-approved midwifery qualification and meeting the required stage of study.
  • Ability to provide safe delegated care under the supervision of a Registered Midwife.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with a commitment to quality care.
  • A proactive approach to learning, professional development and continuous improvement.

You'll stand out from the crowd if you have previous experience in a maternity or healthcare setting and/or a strong understanding of contemporary patient safety and infection prevention practices.

Above all, you'll bring the values we live by at Darling Downs Health: Compassion, Integrity, Dignity, Innovation and Courage.

Together, you'll help create positive maternity experiences while building the foundations of a rewarding midwifery career.
