About the role

General Summary of Position:

The Susan and Alan Solomont School of Nursing at University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks a full-time tenure-track (open rank) faculty member with an established program of research or solid research trajectory. Priority research areas include health promotion, the healthcare workforce, and historically excluded and underserved populations, but applicants with expertise in other areas are also encouraged to apply. Tenure-track faculty have a base teaching load of 4 courses per year, with reductions based on research productivity; generous teaching releases are standard for assistant professors in their first four years. All faculty in the school are expected to engage in service to the School, College, and University, commensurate with rank. We seek applicants recognized for scholarly productivity, ability to work with diverse populations, and excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate may be appointed at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level, depending upon qualifications.

A growing, dynamic, and well-regarded school established in 1968, the Solomont School of Nursing enrolls over 550 nursing students in the BS, RN to BS, Master’s, Doctor of Nursing Practice and PhD in Nursing programs and has 20 full-time faculty members. NCLEX-RN pass rates and NP certification exam pass rates consistently exceed 90%. Faculty have diverse interests and conduct research in the areas of health disparities, correctional worker health, occupational health, pediatrics, and women’s health, with many active collaborations with other units across campus, such as public health, biomedical and nutritional sciences, biomedical engineering, computer science and psychology.

The Solomont School of Nursing is located within the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences, a vibrant and growing community of 64 faculty and over 2100 students. Zuckerberg College prepares professionals and scientists in a wide range of health science fields including nursing, biomedical, pharmaceutical and nutritional sciences, physical therapy and exercise science, and public health. Faculty research within Zuckerberg College ranges from laboratory research to clinical interventions and community-based projects and there is a supportive culture for both interdisciplinary and community-based research across the College. Research programs with significant funding and strong community partnerships and engagement opportunities enrich and support our educational programs. Many faculty are part of the Center for Population Health, a vibrant university-wide research center whose home is in the College. The College is a leader in interprofessional education, research and practice opportunities for faculty and students. There are numerous opportunities for research collaborations with other UMass Lowell Colleges and Research Centers, across the 5-campus UMass system, and across the greater Boston area.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell, located about 25 miles northwest of Boston in the high-tech corridor of Massachusetts, is a diverse public research university enrolling nearly 17,000 students. Approximately 48% of undergraduates identify as being from diverse backgrounds and 43% are first-generation college students. UMass Lowell has experienced dramatic growth in research funding, total endowments, and student enrollment over the past ten years. It is ranked the #1 public university in Massachusetts by the Wall Street Journal and the #1 public university in New England for return on investment. It is a Carnegie Classification Research 1 university and conducts more than $120 million in sponsored research annually. Located 30 miles north of Boston, and part of the five-campus University of Massachusetts system, faculty at UMass Lowell can easily collaborate with clinical sites and researchers in Boston, Worcester, and surrounding areas.
