About the role

About Tutor

We believe robots are the biggest lever we have to making the physical world a better, more affordable place. But robots are a rounding error in our society: nearly nine out of ten American factories and warehouses don’t even have a single robot, and robots have yet to make their way into our homes or places of business.

Tutor Intelligence is changing that.

Tutor is a robotics research and deployment company, building generally capable robot hardware and artificial intelligence to enable robots to go where no robots have gone before. Sonny is a semi-humanoid robot with frontier dexterity approaching the human form. Cassie does back-breaking work, moving boxes, pallets, and bulk goods for businesses from family-owned manufacturers to some of the largest brands in the world. Tutor robots are manufactured at scale and operate as a network, combining the whole fleet’s learned experience to train ever more capable robot artificial intelligence.

Founded at MIT and headquartered in Watertown, MA, our team is full stack: we design and manufacture robot hardware, train our own models, work directly with the smallest and largest end-customers, and maintain our fleet across the United States. We’re a team of researchers, engineers, technicians, operators, and sellers who love building things and solving hard problems.

Our mission is grand: robots everywhere, for the common good, raising the standard of living across North America, and then the world.

The Role

We’re building something incredible at Tutor.

That means hiring best-in-class talent who will shape our thinking and push us to reach our goals. We’re growing our Recruiting team and looking for full-cycle recruiters who care about building high-performing teams. You’ll partner with stakeholders to craft well-thought-through hiring strategies, then carry them through every stage of the process. Candidate experience and a sense of urgency are at the top of your list. You keep stakeholders informed, manage your pipeline closely, and make every interaction a great talent brand experience.

You’ll own hiring for Tutor’s software engineering and AI/ML research teams, the people building the intelligence behind robots working in real factories and warehouses. You’ll partner directly with engineering and research leadership and report to the Director of Recruiting. We’re an onsite culture: we work together in person at our Watertown office, close to the teams and robots we’re hiring for.

What You'll Own

  • Partner with engineering and research leaders on a hiring strategy for each role: what great looks like, where to find it, and how we’ll assess it
  • Run the full cycle from sourcing to close, with heavy emphasis on outbound for people who aren’t looking
  • Drive a well crafted and streamlined hiring process
  • Keep searches moving with urgency, without trading off quality or candidate experience
  • Make every touchpoint, from first outreach to offer, reflect the team candidates would be joining
  • Keep hiring managers informed with clear pipeline updates and honest market insight
  • Update Ashby (ATS) pipelines effectively so data drives decisions

Requirements

  • 4+ years of full-cycle recruiting, with meaningful time on software engineering and/or ML/research roles
  • A track record of building teams, not just filling reqs
  • The ability to have a real conversation with engineers and researchers about their work
  • Experience winning candidates in competitive markets
  • Strong stakeholder management: you advise hiring managers and push back when needed
  • Nice to haves (zero or more): early-stage startup experience, robotics/CV/ML recruiting, academic and research lab pipelines, connections in the Boston/Cambridge tech community.

Our interview process

We want you to know exactly what to expect. Here’s the process from first conversation to offer:

  1. Intro call (30 min): A conversation with a member of our Recruiting team about your background and what you’re looking for.
  2. Director of Recruiting (45 min): A deeper conversation about how you approach recruiting, partner with stakeholders, and build teams.
  3. Take-home assessment (1 hr): A practical exercise based on real work you’d do here. You can complete it on your own schedule.
  4. Onsite at our Watertown office:
  5. 1 hour with the Director of Recruiting
  6. 30 minutes with our People Strategy Lead
  7. 30 minutes with a stakeholder you’d partner with closely

Throughout the process, we’ll keep you updated on where things stand. You’ll hear our decision within 5 business days of your final interview.

Why Tutor?

Whether you’re designing robots, closing deals, running deployments, or creating the processes that help us scale, your work doesn’t sit on a shelf. It shows up on real production floors, making physical work safer and more affordable.

Our team of 160+ is driven by curiosity and a genuine love of building. Everyone here takes real ownership, learns fast, and holds a high bar while having each other’s backs. If you love hard problems and creating things that didn’t exist before, you’ll fit right in.

Benefits

We take care of our team so they can do their best work. At Tutor, you’ll get:

  • Fully employer-covered health insurance, so you’re protected without the premium.
  • A managed 401(k) to help you plan for the future.
  • Generous time off: unlimited PTO and all federal holidays off for full-time salaried employees, and 16+ days of accrued paid time off plus 1.5x pay on federal holidays for hourly employees.
  • Regular in-office meals and team social events throughout the year.

As Tutor grows, so will our benefits. We’re continuing to invest in ways to support our team at work and beyond.

Tutor Intelligence is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
