About the role

About Us

At Datacom, we combine technology, expertise, and talented people to help organisations thrive in a rapidly changing world. As one of Australasia's leading technology providers, we work with customers across industries to solve real-world problems and deliver meaningful outcomes.

Whether we're supporting governments, enterprise organisations, or growing businesses, we're committed to creating meaningful outcomes for our customers, communities, and each other.

About the team stuff

Don’t miss an incredible opportunity to work with an awesome hybrid team based in the Ōtautahi Christchurch office. We offer a unique blend of software developers and BAs who show up to work on challenging projects, experiment with cutting edge AI tech, and run some of the best Teams chat channels you’ll find south of the Strait.

Sure, there are policies and company-wide emails about timesheet due dates, but you’ll find that anywhere. The important thing is, do you want to work in a fun team who loves having a laugh, and plays a mean game of lawn bowls?

We’re looking for an awesome Senior Full Stack .NET Developer to take on a Tech Lead role, who will not only smash out some incredible work but will also grow our team vibes. We need curious, growth-mindset developers who want to get stuck into future-focused tooling and redefining how software is built. We also expect you're adult enough to work in a hybrid role where you’re trusted to deliver your best work in a flexible week.

About the role - the work stuff

We're looking for a highly experienced and passionate Senior Full Stack .NET Developer to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of software development. You'll be instrumental in building robust and scalable web applications using the Microsoft .NET stack, but more importantly, you'll be at the forefront of our exciting AI-driven projects. This is a chance to leverage your deep .NET expertise while exploring some pretty cool, cutting-edge AI technologies.

As a Datacom Tech Lead, you’re expected to bring a healthy dose of leadership skill and technical consulting expertise. Our Tech Leads work closely with client and internal teams, providing technical direction and decision making, and working with key stakeholders to ensure we are delivering a high-quality experience.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing, building, and deploying applications for our customers using the latest .NET technologies, with a strong emphasis on scalability and performance.
  • Working closely with customers to understand their needs and tailor solutions that solve real-world business challenges.
  • Providing technical advice and consultancy to our customers
  • Working closely with stakeholders and taking accountability for the technical experince and outcomes
  • Staying across the latest tech trends, models, and tools, and bring innovative ideas into solution design.
  • Contributing to establishing best practices, frameworks, and reusable components for development at Datacom.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to intuitive, user-facing tools and APIs that deliver measurable business value to our customers.
  • Working to ensure that systems are developed within agreed budgets and time frames and achieve necessary design and systems security standards.

Things you need

  • A passion for and willingness to explore the potential of AI solutions in software development
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience in a Senior Developer or Tech Lead role
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly in a customer-facing context
  • An open mind and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.
  • We are open to finding the right blend of technical skills and experience drawing from the following:
  • .NET Framework/Core, ASP.NET, and C#
  • RESTful API design and development
  • Front-end development skills (e.g. React, Angular, HTML, CSS)
  • Proficiency in database design and management (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL)
  • Experience or knowledge of Azure cloud computing platforms (or equivalent)

Things that are nice to have

  • Experience with ORM frameworks (Entity Framework).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of Azure Integration Services
  • Experience using AI tooling or integrating AI projects
  • Experience implementing comprehensive unit and integration testing strategies to ensure code quality and application stability.

Why you should apply

Join a great team with a pile of work and a diverse range of projects. This is not a place you’ll stagnate - our team lines up a wide range of projects for clients of all shapes and sizes. We trust our people to be innovative thinkers with ideas worth sharing, and we welcome fresh thinking in all our deliveries and ways of working.

We will offer you upskilling opportunities and a suite of colleagues you can teach and learn from. We work flexibly and treat our team members like the grown-ups they are. We understand everyone’s lives look different, and we will work with you to ensure work-life balance is part and parcel of your time with us.

The data shows that women and members of underrepresented groups are less likely to apply for roles when they don’t tick every box. We look beyond the box ticking, and we want to hear from people who think they’ll be a great fit and an asset to our team. Please give us a shout and have a chat – you never know, this could be your next step!
