About the role

About Obvio AI

Each year, more than 40,000 people in the U.S. leave home and never make it back due to traffic crashes. At Obvio, we believe these deaths are preventable. We deploy solar-powered, AI-assisted cameras to enforce traffic laws where pedestrians are most vulnerable, automating enforcement in ways that traditional systems cannot. Our approach has already led to a 50% reduction in reckless driving in early partner cities.

Founded by the team behind Motive's AI dashcam and backed by Bain Capital Ventures and Khosla Ventures, we are building the intelligence layer for safer streets globally.

Obvio Inc, an AI technology company based in California near San Francisco. Obvio specializes in road safety solutions that leverage solar-powered AI edge controllers and LLM to monitor traffic behavior in towns and cities. Our systems are currently deployed across several towns in Maryland, with proven results—including a 50%+ decrease in stop sign violations. This is an exciting chance to work for a venture-backed company at the forefront of AI!

Our roadside setup typically includes a scene-monitoring camera, a second camera to detect distracted driving, infrared lighting, and speed sensors—all integrated through our proprietary AI edge system. We have extensive experience managing these deployments and are proud of the impact we've made on community safety.

We are now preparing to conduct traffic behavior studies across the Mid-Atlantic (Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia & North Carolina), with the goal of analyzing patterns near schools, high-incident intersections, and busy pedestrian zones. This will be a high-profile initiative, with findings shared through TV outlets, newspapers, and local legislators.

To execute this, we are assembling a technical field team and are seeking a highly-motivated individual for a 3+ day per week commitment (20-40 hours per week including travel) with potential for this to transition to a full-time opportunity. Participants will receive all necessary equipment—tripods, cameras, speed sensors, laptops, safety vests, etc.—and on-site training from Obvio. Each study location will be monitored from anywhere to 2 hours to 48 hours, with individuals expected to set up multiple cameras at once.

YOU MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVEL TO DEPLOYMENT LOCATIONS ACROSS THE MID-ATLANTIC - POTENTIALLY UP TO A 3-HOUR DRIVE EACH WAY). Obvio will cover all associated travel costs, including overnight lodging where applicable.

NOTE: OUR FIELD OPERATIONS ARE BASED OUT OF COLLEGE PARK AND YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO MEET WITH THE TEAM THERE FROM TIME-TO-TIME

Ideal Candidates

  • Motivated, self-starter that is willing to roll up their sleeves and get out in the field and is comfortable being in the field by themselves some days (after training, of course)
  • Recently graduated or in a graduate program with a relevant degree (STEM, engineering, transportation planning, etc.)
  • Interested in AI and developing real-world applications for it

Requirements

  • A personal vehicle for transporting equipment to deployment locations (note: you will be reimbursed for mileage)
  • Access to home internet (not mobile hotspot) for end-of-day data uploads
  • Ability to recharge the provided laptop daily

Why Obvio

  • Your work will help save lives and improve road safety
  • Series A of $54M
  • Fast-moving startup environment with meaningful ownership
  • Competitive compensation and early-stage equity
