About the role

Educational Interpreters play a critical role in ensuring equitable access to the curriculum, classroom instruction, and school life by providing high-quality Auslan-English interpreting services.

About the Role

As a Teacher Aide (Educational Interpreter - Auslan), you will:

  • Provide Auslan-English interpreting in classroom and school settings
  • Support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to access curriculum content and classroom interactions
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, specialists and school leadership
  • Maintain professional interpreting standards and ethical boundaries
  • Contribute to inclusive education practices and culturally safe learning environments

Appointments may be Permanent or Temporary, Full-time or Part-time, depending on school need and available vacancies.

Applicants must

  • Indicate their preferred geographic location(s) within Queensland as part of their application
  • Be aware that vacancies may arise at various times throughout the year
  • Understand that appointment will occur only when a suitable vacancy becomes available

The recruitment panel will convene monthly to review applications and assess suitability for inclusion in the pool.

Please note

Due to this process, correspondence may not be immediate. Applicants will be contacted following panel review or when a suitable vacancy aligns with their nominated location preference.

Interested? To Apply

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history)
  • Attach a short written response to the below scenario, demonstrating your ability to communicate while applying professional and ethical standards in the workplace:
  • A parent approaches you requesting private support work or tutoring for their child outside of your departmental role. How would you respond to this request, noting that providing such support is not ethically permitted? Please outline how you would communicate this professionally and respectfully to the parent.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
