About the role

Your opportunity

Our new co-located secondary school is seeking a passionate and relationship-focused Student Support Officer (AO4) to join our foundation team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a new school community from the ground up. As a foundation staff member, you will play a pivotal role in creating a culture where every student is known, valued and supported to achieve their potential.

Working alongside staff, students, families and community partners, you will help foster engagement, strengthen connections and remove barriers to learning and participation.

As a Student Support Officer, you will work proactively with students, families and the wider community to support student engagement, attendance, wellbeing and successful educational outcomes. You will build positive and trusting relationships that support students to overcome challenges and connect meaningfully with their learning, school and community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and sustaining positive relationships with students, families and community stakeholders.
  • Supporting student attendance, engagement and participation through proactive intervention and support strategies.
  • Working collaboratively with students, families and staff to identify and address educational, social, emotional or behavioural barriers to learning.
  • Monitoring student wellbeing and assisting in the implementation of appropriate supports and interventions.
  • Promoting the value of education and encouraging positive engagement in learning.
  • Supporting students and families to access relevant services and resources.
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture.
  • Maintaining accurate records and supporting data-informed decision-making.
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes for students.

About You: We are looking for someone who:

  • Builds genuine and respectful relationships with young people and their families.
  • Demonstrates empathy, resilience and a strong commitment to student wellbeing.
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Is proactive, solutions-focused and able to navigate complex situations with professionalism.
  • Understands the importance of cultural responsiveness and inclusive practice.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement, discretion and integrity.
  • Is committed to improving outcomes for all students.

Experience working with diverse learners, including students with disability, and an understanding of inclusive education practices will be highly regarded.

Interested? To Apply

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history)
  • Attach a 1-page written statement about how your achievements and capabilities meet the requirements of the role.
  • Attach a copy of your mandatory qualifications/registration outlined in the attached role description

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
