About the role

State Library of Queensland is one of Australia's leading cultural institutions, preserving Queensland's documentary memory, providing free access to knowledge, and supporting public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres across the state. Based at South Bank, its profile will continue to grow as Brisbane approaches the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Library Board of Queensland is seeking a State Librarian and Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next chapter. Reporting to the Board, this statutory executive role under the Libraries Act 1988 works closely with the Minister, government, local councils and cultural partners. You will lead a high-performing organisation and executive team of seven.

The Board is seeking a contemporary chief executive who can set strategic direction, lead cultural renewal, drive innovation in AI and digital access, grow audiences, strengthen partnerships and diversify revenue. You will position State Library as a leading national institution with an international outlook.

You will bring significant experience leading a large, complex and publicly accountable organisation, with strong capability in strategy, transformation, stakeholder engagement, financial stewardship, innovation and executive leadership. Library and information management expertise or relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded, but outstanding leaders from adjacent sectors are also encouraged to apply.

To apply, please submit your CV and a two-page statement addressing the key responsibilities and core capabilities in the role description by 11:59pm (AEST), 08 November.
