About the role

Apptronik is a human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered robots to support humanity in every facet of life. Our flagship humanoid robot, Apollo, is built to collaborate thoughtfully with people, starting with critical industries such as manufacturing and logistics, with future applications in healthcare, the home, and beyond.

We operate at the cutting edge of Applied AI, applying our expertise across the full robotics stack to solve some of society's most important problems. You will join a team dedicated to bringing Apollo to market at scale, tackling the complex challenges like safety, commercialization, and mass production to change the world for the better.

JOB SUMMARY

Be the person who takes a humanoid robot from a safe design to a certified, market-ready product. You will own product safety and regulatory compliance, including electrical safety, EMC/EMI (FCC), battery, and radio, and lead engagement with certification bodies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Own the product safety and regulatory compliance roadmap across all product safety domains, identifying applicable standards and regulations by market (e.g., ISO 10218, ISO 25785-1, UL 3300, EU Machinery Regulation) and tracking product readiness against them
  • Translate applicable standards and regulations into product safety and compliance requirements, and manage them with traceability to verification
  • Compile the technical file for regulatory submissions, including declarations of conformity, from the safety case and domain evidence, and confirm it meets the applicable standards.
  • Serve as primary technical contact with notified bodies, NRTLs, accredited test labs, and regulators, leading assessments, audits, and pre-compliance and certification testing, including FCC authorization
  • Own electrical safety and EMC/EMI compliance, including requirements for electrical teams, test plans, and closure of emissions and immunity issues
  • Own battery, radio, and environmental certification, including battery safety and transport approvals, wireless approvals, and materials and environmental regulations
  • Maintain product certifications through their lifecycle, including renewals and surveillance audits, certification marks, product labeling, and required warnings
  • Assess the compliance impact of product changes, including hardware revisions, software updates, and new variants, and manage recertification
  • Track changes in standards and regulation, including AI/ML-enabled functions, and communicate impacts to engineering and leadership

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated experience leading safety certification or third-party assessment of complex robotic, machinery, or electromechanical products, including compiling technical files and declarations of conformity for regulatory submission
  • Proven experience establishing and leading global regulatory and compliance strategies to support product certification and deployment across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia
  • Deep understanding of the functional safety lifecycle and working knowledge of robotics and machinery safety standards, such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and ISO 10218, and the EU Machinery Regulation and CE marking
  • Experience with EMC/EMI and electrical safety compliance, such as FCC Part 15 and IEC 62368-1, including pre-compliance and accredited lab testing
  • Experience with NRTL and notified body processes, including test plans, technical files, audits, and certification maintenance; battery, radio, and biocompatibility certification experience preferred
  • Experience with requirements and traceability tools such as JAMA
  • Familiarity with regulation and standards for AI-enabled products, such as the EU AI Act
  • Excellent communication and the ability to influence engineering, product, and executive stakeholders

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related field (or equivalent experience); Master’s preferred
  • 12+ years of relevant experience, including substantial responsibility for regulatory compliance, product safety, or functional safety of complex electromechanical or robotic products

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate

Salary range for CA: $250,000 - $280,000
