About the role

Staff Perfusionist

Strata Critical Recovery (formerly Keystone Perfusion) is seeking a Staff Perfusionist to join our established cardiac surgery program at Baptist Health Lexington, in Lexington, Kentucky. This is a well-established, high-volume cardiac program on pace for 750–800 cardiac cases per year across four cardiac surgeons, with a fifth full-time cardiac surgeon joining the program. This position adds a fifth full-time perfusionist to our current team of four to support that continued growth.

Case mix is primarily CABG, valve, and aortic repair, with occasional ECMO support. On-call is split evenly one-fifth (20%) across the five-perfusionist team — a call burden that makes for an excellent work/life balance while still offering the case volume and complexity that keep your skills sharp.

Location: In person at Baptist Health Lexington - 1740 Nicholasville Rd., Lexington, KY 40503

Compensation: $145,000 - $185,000 depending on experience + $50,000 sign-on bonus!

Employment Type: Full Time

Shift: Days/Nights/Call

As a Staff Perfusionist, you will be responsible for all aspects of perfusion-related services in collaboration with the departments of anesthesia, surgery, and nursing administration. You will ensure safe and proper operation and quality control of equipment, techniques, and procedures; and analyze and evaluate activities to assure established quality patient care.

You will be responsible for performing clinical perfusion administration as scheduled and coordinating purchasing of supplies and equipment to maximize efficient utilization. You will also contribute to planning goals and objectives for the department and assist the director in coordinating activities and programs. You will help maintain quality improvement programs for the perfusion department in collaboration with hospital programs and compliance with regulatory and accreditation agency requirements.

Lexington offers the amenities of a mid-sized city with a low cost of living, short commutes, strong schools, and the culture and dining of a university town — set in the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass horse country. Louisville, Cincinnati, and Nashville are all within easy driving distance. It's a great fit for a perfusionist looking for a busy, well-supported program with a genuinely manageable call schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of perfusion-related services in collaboration with anesthesia, surgery, and nursing administration.
  • Support a case mix of primarily CABG, valve, and aortic repair procedures, with occasional ECMO.
  • Ensure safe operation and quality control of equipment, techniques, and procedures.
  • Coordinate purchasing of supplies and equipment to maximize efficient utilization.
  • Contribute to departmental planning goals and objectives, assisting the director as needed.
  • Maintain quality improvement programs in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, shared evenly one-fifth (20%) across the five-perfusionist team.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay: $145,000.00 - $165,000.00 per year
  • Sign On Bonus: $50,000
  • Relocation Assistance: Up to $5,000.00
  • 401(k): Company contribution
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off (PTO): 200 accrued hours per year
  • CME Reimbursement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular perfusion education program
  • Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
  • American Heart Association or Red Cross health care provider BLS Certification

Competencies

  • Safe and effective operation of cardiac perfusion equipment
  • Effective infection control practices related to equipment operation
  • Accurate patient information review
  • Maintaining a safe environment
  • Infection Prevention
  • Ongoing professional development

The ideal candidate will have highly effective verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in an area of specialty.
