Are you an experienced environmental consulting professional who enjoys leading complex projects, building lasting client relationships, and mentoring technical teams? Apex Companies is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Environmental Services team.

In this role, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of environmental consulting projects from proposal through completion, serving commercial, industrial, municipal, and federal clients. You'll oversee project execution, provide technical leadership, mentor staff, and partner with clients to develop practical solutions while helping expand long-term business relationships.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing technical expertise, project leadership, and client engagement while working alongside a collaborative team of environmental professionals.

Your Responsibilities as a Senior Project Manager

  • Manage multiple environmental consulting projects simultaneously, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Apex's quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building trusted relationships through responsive communication, technical expertise, and exceptional service.
  • Develop project scopes, work plans, schedules, budgets, and proposals while monitoring project performance from kickoff through completion.
  • Manage project financial performance, including budgets, change orders, invoicing, and overall project profitability.
  • Coordinate project staffing, subcontractors, and internal resources to successfully deliver multiple concurrent projects.
  • Review technical reports, work products, and client deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to project managers, scientists, geologists, and field staff while mentoring the next generation of environmental professionals.
  • Attend client meetings, project discussions, and site visits to support project planning, quality assurance, and successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with technical experts and project managers across Apex's national network to deliver innovative solutions for clients.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships, prepare proposals, deliver presentations, and support business development efforts.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement on every project.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related scientific discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license or the ability to obtain licensure is preferred.
  • 10+ years of environmental consulting experience with increasing project management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated success managing environmental consulting projects from proposal through completion.
  • Strong technical writing and report review experience.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client expectations.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects while balancing competing priorities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience mentoring and developing technical staff.
  • Business development experience, including proposal preparation and client relationship management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365; experience with CRM platforms and Deltek Vision is a plus.

  • 401(k) match and tuition assistance.
  • Cross-training and opportunities to work on a variety of environmental projects.
  • Performance-based bonuses and other incentives.
  • Opportunities for continued technical and professional development.
  • The opportunity to work alongside some of the best and brightest professionals in the environmental industry.
  • Join a 2,000+ employee national firm with 70+ locations across the United States.
