Job Description

Provide civil engineering expertise for oil and gas projects, including refineries, petrochemical facilities, gas processing plants, pipelines, terminals, tank farms, and associated infrastructure. Lead civil design from conceptual development through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and project closeout. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, vendors, and clients to deliver safe, efficient, and constructible civil works in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, schedules, budgets, and project requirements.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead civil engineering design for oil and gas facilities and infrastructure from conceptual design through project closeout.
  • Develop and review grading, drainage, road, paving, underground utility, stormwater, wastewater, culvert, building, and site infrastructure designs.
  • Develop and review civil foundation layouts, equipment foundation requirements, concrete slabs, earthwork, and related site improvements.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, design criteria, specifications, drawings, technical reports, quantities, material take-offs, and cost estimates.
  • Interpret geotechnical reports and apply soil parameters to foundation and civil designs.
  • Coordinate civil requirements with process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, environmental, construction, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Evaluate site conditions, brownfield and greenfield constraints, constructability, existing facilities, and project risks.
  • Review vendor drawings, contractor submittals, RFIs, technical queries, and construction documents.
  • Provide field engineering support, conduct site inspections, resolve civil issues, and participate in construction and technical review meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable API, ACI, ASCE, ASTM, AISC, NFPA, OSHA, project, and local or regional requirements.
  • Participate in HAZOP, constructability, design, value-engineering, safety, and risk-assessment reviews as required.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and suppliers; monitor progress against schedule, budget, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Mentor civil engineers and designers and support commissioning, startup, and closeout activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline

  • Experience:

Typically 8–12+ years of civil engineering experience, preferably in oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, LNG, chemical, or heavy industrial facilities; EPC/EPCM experience highly desirable

  • Licensure:

Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional registration preferred

  • Technical Skills:

Industrial site development, foundations, concrete, grading, drainage, roads, paving, underground utilities, geotechnical interpretation, constructability, and field execution

Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools, or equivalent civil design software, as project needs require

  • Leadership:

Experience leading civil engineering activities, coordinating across disciplines, working with clients and contractors, and mentoring engineers and designers

  • Other Skills:

Strong technical writing, communication, coordination, problem-solving, quality-control, project-planning, and HSSE awareness skills

Professional Development Opportunities

  • Lead major civil work packages for refineries, petrochemical plants, LNG facilities, terminals, pipelines, and other industrial projects
  • Expand expertise in brownfield and greenfield project execution, heavy industrial foundations, and equipment support systems
  • Develop discipline-lead, project-planning, estimating, technical-specification, and document-control capabilities
  • Work with international engineering standards and multidisciplinary or multinational project teams
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to civil engineers, designers, and engineering technicians

Individual field assignments typically each have their own unique requirements. Prior to deployment on any field assignment, you must be able to meet all client-specific site requirements.
