About the role

Hi there :)

Thanks for checking in to find out about our open position. We´ll provide as much information as possible, but please feel free to reach us if you have further questions. We´ll be happy to see your application, even if there are skills you don't quite master!

About Us

At South Geeks, we connect top-performing engineers from Latin America with global organizations building meaningful, long-term products. We focus on high-impact work, strong technical environments, and creating spaces where professionals can grow, contribute, and thrive.

About the Client

Our client is a large, mission-driven nonprofit organization that runs one of the world's biggest data platforms in its space, serving millions of users. Its data team relies on accurate, high-performing data to power reporting and analytics across the organization.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced SQL Developer to design, write, and tune complex queries and to build and maintain the ETL pipelines that feed the enterprise data warehouse. You will work with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to make sure data is accurate, performs well, and is ready for reporting and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write complex, efficient SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions.
  • Turn business requirements into well-structured, maintainable SQL logic.
  • Build data extracts and datasets for reporting and analytics.
  • Analyze execution plans to find and fix performance bottlenecks.
  • Recommend and implement performance optimizations such as query rewriting, caching, and materialized views.
  • Monitor database performance and fix issues before they affect users.
  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that move data from source systems or S3 into the warehouse.
  • Build in data quality checks, validation, and error handling.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve ETL job failures and data discrepancies.
  • Document data flows, mappings, transformations, and technical designs.
  • Work with analysts and business users to clarify requirements, and take part in code reviews.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience writing complex SQL (joins, CTEs, window functions, subqueries, aggregations).
  • Proven experience optimizing SQL queries and tuning database performance, including reading and interpreting execution plans.
  • 3+ years of experience developing ETL processes for a data warehouse.
  • Experience with at least one cloud-hosted data warehouse, preferably Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Experience with at least one ETL tool or framework such as Databricks, Informatica, Talend, AWS Glue, or similar.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and strong attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

  • Power BI (DAX, Power Query/M, data modeling) or Tableau (calculated fields, LOD expressions, Server/Cloud publishing).
  • Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or Databricks.
  • Python for automation and data processing; Spark/PySpark.
  • Dimensional modeling (star and snowflake schemas) and data warehousing concepts (Kimball/Inmon).
  • Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines for database and ETL deployments, and job scheduling/orchestration.

Our Team

We strive to create an inspiring and growth-oriented environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered. We promote both personal and professional development, with individualized support for your needs and goals. We aim to build a space where everyone can thrive.

What We Offer

  • Long-term projects
  • 100% remote work
  • Payment in USD
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Work-from-home & training reimbursement
  • English lessons
  • Technical training
  • Career coaching
