About the role
Caseware combines over 35 years of industry expertise with AI-powered technology to transform how audit and accounting professionals work. Serving organizations across 130 countries, we bring intelligent automation directly into audit and financial reporting workflows—helping professionals reduce manual work, navigate complexity, and focus on informed decisions. Join our global team and help build technology that strengthens trust in financial information.
The SDET II owns the automated testing of features within their squad, end to end. At this level the person designs, implements and executes automated tests across the platform, keeps the suite green and trustworthy, and debugs their own failures rather than escalating them. They are a full participant in the Central Quality Engineering function — partnering with product teams to embed quality into every phase of development through tooling, automation, infrastructure and reporting. This is also the level at which the person starts moving coverage down the test pyramid, away from purely UI-based validation toward API, contract and integration testing, because that is where reliability comes from. The SDET II contributes to Caseware’s move toward agentic development and testing, working with AI test harnesses applied within the quality engineering space.
What you will do
- Designs, implements and executes automated tests across the platform, and owns the automated testing of new features developed within the squad.
- Creates, owns and reviews peers’ automation scripts, and takes ownership of keeping them green.
- Investigates and fixes automation failures by debugging daily automation runs and reports, without needing that work assigned.
- Contributes to quality releases and reduced time to market by adding meaningful automation coverage and by converting manual tests to automated ones.
- Contributes to improvements within the test pyramid — shifting away from sole reliance on UI validation toward lower levels of testing to increase reliability.
- Improves the stability and speed of E2E tests through better test data setup, test isolation and execution reliability; champions practices that reduce flaky tests and noisy signals.
- Performs root-cause analysis of defects using logs, browser dev tools, API calls and data inspection.
- Challenges acceptance criteria for each persona during refinement, and identifies during planning what should be automated.
- Handles on-call effectively and promptly, and reliably reproduces production defects.
- Assists during hotfix rollouts and other time-sensitive initiatives.
- Creates accurate, informative Jira tickets with the data needed to reproduce an issue.
- Gives credible automation effort estimates during refinement.
- Participates in and improves code review practice across the team.
- Contributes toward key delivery and quality metrics — test coverage, defect trends, test effectiveness, execution health, flakiness and regression rates — and uses them to refine practice.
- Collaborates with squad Development, Product, UX and Documentation members, and presents sprint demos to the squad and team.
- Mentors SDET I and co-op team members, and assists with onboarding new hires.
- Works with agentic testing capability and AI test harnesses applied within the quality engineering space, and contributes to evaluating what actually works.
- Works with DevOps to build and enhance the CI/CD pipeline.
What you will bring
- 2+ years of experience in quality engineering teams, ideally within a modern SaaS or platform organisation in a cloud-native environment (AWS).
- Solid hands-on experience in TypeScript, HTML and CSS; Java and JavaScript depending on the platform.
- Core automation skills and a working understanding of the frameworks and tools used for web application and microservices testing — in-depth knowledge of Cypress with TypeScript, or the willingness to get there quickly.
- Knowledge of testing strategies and tools across the pyramid, from unit through to E2E, including API contract and integration testing (Pact, K6).
- Understanding of cloud, microservice and third-party-integration-based architecture, and of databases.
- Extensive knowledge of version control systems such as Git and their application to managing test artifacts.
- Working knowledge of GitHub Actions or Jenkins, and experience working with DevOps to build and enhance a CI/CD pipeline.
- Familiarity with observability tooling and with practices that improve test signal and pipeline feedback loops.
- Experience working in a fast-paced agile environment with changing priorities.
- Strong communication, time management, interpersonal and team-building skills.
- A keen eye for detail and well-developed problem-solving skills.
- Practical interest in AI-powered testing tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude, and the judgement to know where they help and where they do not.
- Nice to have: experience testing Angular / AngularJS applications with Cypress-class frameworks; IntelliJ; and working knowledge of the accounting, auditing or financial domain.
