About the role

About Sporty Group

Sporty Group is a global sports entertainment company, home to leading brands like SportyBet, Football.com and SportyTV. We operate at the intersection of sports, content, community and technology, building products and media experiences that connect fans with the moments that matter.

Our media brands, led by SportyTV, bring fans closer to the game through highlights, stories, analysis, personalities and football culture, across every major social platform.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Social Media Lead to drive social strategy and coordinate the social team behind SportyTV and our sports media brands. This role combines team leadership, a sports journalism mindset and strong editorial judgement to make our channels a go-to destination for football fans.

You’ll set the editorial direction, run day-to-day publishing operations, and lead a team of social media managers, community managers and content creators, making sure our output is fast, accurate, engaging and built for growth.

You’ll work closely with Content, Video/Production, Design, Brand, Marketing, Partnerships, BI and Country teams, and report to the Social Media Director.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead, coordinate and develop a team of social media managers, community managers and content creators across SportyTV and our media brands.
  • Set priorities, assign coverage and run workflows and shift planning for match days, live events and breaking news.
  • Give clear feedback, run regular editorial meetings and raise the team’s creative and editorial standards.
  • Build scalable processes (calendars, briefs, approval flows, playbooks) that keep the team fast and consistent.

Editorial Strategy & Sports Coverage

  • Define and execute the social and editorial strategy for SportyTV and Football.com, aligned with global brand guidelines and business priorities.
  • Own the editorial calendar around major football and sports moments (EPL, UCL, LaLiga, AFCON, World Cup, transfer windows, etc.).
  • Apply a journalistic approach to social: newsworthiness, storytelling, fact-checking, source verification and speed without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Lead real-time and reactive coverage of match days, breaking news, transfers, controversies and trending moments.

Content & Formats

  • Oversee content across Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, YouTube (incl. Shorts), LinkedIn and Telegram.
  • Develop and scale repeatable content series and franchises: highlights-led narratives, analysis, interviews, explainers, football culture and personality-led formats.
  • Work with video, production and design teams to deliver platform-native content with strong hooks and retention.
  • Ensure tone of voice, quality and brand consistency across all channels.

Community & Audience Growth

  • Drive follower growth, engagement and watch time across SportyTV and media brand channels.
  • Oversee community management: comments, DMs, moderation, sentiment monitoring and escalation of sensitive issues.
  • Spot local relevance opportunities across our key markets and global football audiences.

Talent, Creators & Partnerships

  • Work with presenters, journalists, pundits, creators and sports personalities to grow reach and credibility.
  • Support partnerships, rights-holder relationships and co-branded activations with clubs, leagues and media partners.
  • Coordinate with marketing teams on organic and paid amplification.

Reporting & Performance

  • Track KPIs: reach, views, watch time, engagement, follower growth, retention and sentiment.
  • Deliver weekly/monthly reporting with clear insights and next actions for the team and leadership.
  • Run testing frameworks to improve formats, hooks, timing and distribution.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in social media, with at least 2 years coordinating or leading social media teams.
  • Background in sports journalism, sports media or a sports newsroom (degree in Journalism or Communications is a plus).
  • Proven experience running social channels for sports media brands, publishers, broadcasters, clubs or leagues.
  • Deep football and sports knowledge, with a strong news sense and love for the game.
  • Excellent English (C1/C2 or native): you’ll write, edit and approve content in English and it’s our main working language. Spanish or other languages are a plus.
  • Strong editorial judgement: accuracy, fact-checking, tone and handling sensitive stories.
  • Excellent platform instincts across TikTok, Instagram, X, YouTube and Facebook, and a good understanding of video-first content.
  • Confident using analytics and social listening tools to guide decisions.
  • Strong organisation, stakeholder management and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, high-output environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with live coverage of major tournaments.
  • Experience working with audiences in Africa, Latin America or other international markets.
  • Hands-on video editing or production experience.

If you're interested, we encourage you to apply! Every application is reviewed by a member of our team (AI is not used in our recruitment process), and we aim to respond within 48 hours.
