About the role

About the Team

The Forensic Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a specialist Program within the Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service and is also part of the broader Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service. Forensic CYMHS provides assessment and treatment services to young people with mental health issues and significant behavioural disturbance that have resulted/or place them at elevated risk of involvement with the criminal justice system. The goals of the Forensic Program are to promote recovery in children and young people with mental health needs and offending behaviours, increase community safety and reduce the risk of offending. Our vision is to provide high quality clinical care and reduce service inequity to child and youth forensic mental health consumers across Queensland.

About the Role

In this role you will coach and support others to deliver for children, young people and families (Leader of Others) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

  • Support the development of high functioning child and adolescent forensic mental health services inclusive of inpatient, outpatient, outreach, telehealth and evidence-based models of care as appropriate within a forensic multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Promote and develop a forensic mental health multidisciplinary team using well-developed professional and interpersonal skills, fostering and promoting and environment of participation and collaboration for service development, improvement and innovation.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership regarding the development and delivery of culturally capable services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families who present with severe and complex mental health problems and are involved or at risk of involvement with the criminal justice system.
  • Build effective and timely communication and consultation processes within the service, and with families, referring clinicians and other health services.
  • Provide support and authoritative advice on the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of culturally capable forensic mental health services to children and adolescents.
  • Develop and implement evaluation processes across the various components of the Forensic Child and Youth Mental Health program, including those relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Mental Health service delivery and service development needs.
  • Develop a positive culture within the child and adolescent forensic services which encourages and recognises high performance, builds leadership capabilities and supports staff to maximise their health and wellbeing.
  • Take primary responsibility for child and adolescent forensic mental health services, but be flexible to provide support to other service areas to assist with consultant on-call roster, leave coverage, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with contemporary healthcare safety and quality standards and participate in CHQ assurance processes including Accreditation.

Inclusion and diversity

To encourage inclusive practices in recruitment, we are committed to increasing our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce and building inclusive cultures that respect and promote human rights and Workforce Diversity and Inclusion. CHQ is an equal opportunity employer.
