About the role

Salary up to £65,000 DOE plus £5,000 Welcome Bonus plus £5,000 Relocation Allowance

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Abbey Vet Clinic in Arbroath is looking for an experienced small animal veterinary surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for a clinician ready to take on more responsibility, mentor recent graduates, and continue developing their own skills in a well-established practice.

You’ll have clinical freedom, a varied caseload, and opportunities to specialise—whether that’s studying for a certificate, offering specialist services, or advancing your surgical expertise. We also work closely with Cats Protection, running a dedicated cat clinic. Our caseload includes a mix of medical and surgical cases such as routine neuterings, pyometras, lump removals, GI foreign bodies, and dentistry. If you have a particular area of interest, we’d love to support you in developing it further.

Practice Highlights

We have two well-established branches located in the picturesque towns of Arbroath and Forfar. These vibrant communities offer the perfect blend of coastal beauty and countryside charm, with Arbroath’s seaside views and Forfar’s hills, providing a peaceful yet engaging environment for both work and leisure.

Both branches are fully equipped with the latest veterinary tools, including iM3 dental machines, digital radiology, and IDEXX biochemistry and haematology equipment. We are committed to ongoing investment in our facilities. We have recently installed a brand-new dental x-ray machine in our Arbroath branch to further enhance our dentistry services.

Arbroath offers a vibrant coastal lifestyle, with beautiful beaches, historical landmarks, and a lively town atmosphere. It's perfect for those who enjoy outdoor activities and the peace and beauty of nature while still having access to great local amenities. With our central location, you’ll enjoy everything Angus and Dundee have to offer. From scenic coastal walks and outdoor adventures to the vibrant cultural attractions of Dundee—including the V&A Museum, waterfront developments, and fantastic restaurants—there’s plenty to explore.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload.

You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinical culture of the practice. You’ll be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering excellent care and supporting the ongoing development of those around you.

Key Responsibilities

Our people are at the heart of everything that we do, that’s why we know that work-life balance is vital in supporting our people to be their best selves. We work 4.5 days per week, plus 2 in 4 Saturdays 8.30am-12pm, average of 40 hours per week, however willing to consider part time.

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You are a confident and motivated veterinary surgeon who enjoys working as part of a team and is committed to delivering high-quality patient and client care. You’ll bring:

  • A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
  • Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
  • A proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
