About the role

About Us: Artera is an AI startup that develops medical artificial intelligence tests to personalize therapy for cancer patients. Artera is on a mission to personalize medical decisions for patients and physicians on a global scale.

Change how cancer is treated.

Most medical AI stops with a publication. Our AI models guide treatment decisions today.

Artera’s AI-driven prostate test is standard-of-care in the US and cancer patients in all 50 states are using our models to help make decisions about their therapy. While we started in prostate cancer, we’ve grown into a multi-cancer platform with more disease settings in development.

You'll help build what's next.

The Role

At Artera, we’re making the business itself agent-first. A patient’s test touches an extraordinary number of systems before a result reaches their oncologist: electronic health records, lab operations, and billing platforms. You won’t spend your days maintaining brittle scripts or wiring up one-off integrations by hand. Instead, you’ll design, deploy, and supervise agents that run workflows, and you’ll build the secure, observable infrastructure that makes it safe to trust them with clinical and financial data.

You’ll be tasked with answering practical but high-stakes questions: which workflows should be automated first, what an agent can be trusted to do on its own versus what needs a human in the loop, and how we roll back cleanly when something goes wrong. You’ll partner directly with Sales, Finance, Customer Success, and Lab Operations, turning their pain points into well-scoped systems with clear SLAs, strong observability, and rollback paths. You’ll ship OCR tooling alongside our AI team, so documents that used to require eyes and hands flow straight into our pipelines.

You’ll also build the next generation of our health system integration layer (HL7, FHIR), so that connecting Artera to a new hospital becomes a repeatable, days-not-months exercise rather than a bespoke project. And you’ll work the way we think software should be built now: using AI code generation and AI-assisted tooling to write, review, and refactor Python at a pace that wasn’t possible a few years ago, with your judgment, not your typing speed, as the differentiator.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable agentic workflows within AWS to automate existing human-driven workflows.
  • Develop and launch Artera’s OCR tooling, with support from the AI team
  • Translate requirements from Sales, Finance, Customer Success, and Lab Operations into well‐scoped engineering deliverables with clear SLAs, observability, and rollback paths.
  • Develop Artera’s next generation of health system integration infrastructure (HL7, FHIR).
  • Use AI Code-gen and other AI‐assisted development tools to accelerate delivery, generating, reviewing, and refactoring Python code.

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping and operating production systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, and deployment of production-grade, highly available software systems in the cloud (AWS preferred).
  • Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work directly with Finance, Technical Product Management, and external vendor counterparts.

Desired experience

  • Experience with AWS and ECS
  • Experience working with GraphQL and REST APIs
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience with HL7, FIHR, and Electronic Health Record (ECR) integrations

Equal Employee Opportunity: At Artera, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients and physicians. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy), physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, protected veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.

In addition to base salary, equity is a core component of our compensation. We also offer 401k matching, unlimited paid time off (PTO), and more.

The base salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, qualifications, and other factors to be discussed during the interview process.
