About the Role

The Device Experience team at HP IQ builds intelligent Windows applications that help people work more naturally with their PCs. We are looking for a senior engineer who enjoys creating thoughtful, visually compelling software. You will work closely with design and product to turn ambitious ideas into responsive interfaces, clear interaction flows, and dependable application behavior. Our work spans custom UI, animation, reusable controls, asynchronous workflows, and integration with local AI and system services. You will help deliver new experiences while improving the architecture of an existing application. AI coding assistants are an important part of how we work. We value engineers who use them effectively to investigate, prototype, implement, and test, and who take responsibility for the resulting code and user experience.

Our primary stack is C#, .NET, and WPF, with WebView-based content and Windows platform integrations.

What You Will Do

  • Help shape features from the initial user problem through implementation and release.
  • Turn designs and incomplete requirements into clear interaction flows, states, and acceptance criteria.
  • Build polished interfaces, reusable controls, and purposeful motion.
  • Use AI development tools to accelerate work while critically reviewing their output.
  • Make sound decisions about MVVM, component boundaries, service integration, and asynchronous behavior.
  • Improve legacy code incrementally while preserving existing behavior.
  • Investigate difficult bugs and verify changes through tests, debugging, and hands-on use.
  • Build with accessibility, keyboard interaction, theming, localization, and performance in mind.
  • Collaborate with design, product, and QA teams, and contribute to engineering practices and code review.

What You Bring

  • Experience shipping and maintaining substantial applications, with evidence of senior-level ownership.
  • Strong C#/.NET fundamentals and practical experience building application interfaces.
  • Practical WPF familiarity is strongly preferred. We also welcome engineers with substantial experience in a comparable UI framework who demonstrate sound UI reasoning, code comprehension, and the ability to learn WPF.
  • A clear understanding of MVVM or comparable presentation patterns, separation of responsibilities, and testable design.
  • Good judgment about user experience, including feedback, alternate states, and interaction details.
  • Practical experience with AI coding assistants, or demonstrated ability to use them thoughtfully and learn quickly.
  • The ability to understand, explain, debug, and validate the code you deliver.
  • Clear communication, curiosity, and a willingness to constructively question assumptions.

Experience We Would Especially Value

  • Visually ambitious applications such as creative tools, visualization software, media applications, CAD, mapping, scientific software, or interactive productivity tools.
  • Deep WPF experience with custom controls, templates, styling, animation, and performance.
  • Modernizing an established desktop application.
  • Accessibility, UI automation, WebView2, or Windows platform integration.
  • Examples of effective AI-assisted engineering beyond basic code completion.

We welcome examples of work you can discuss, including shipped features, demos, screenshots, technical writing, or public projects. A public portfolio is not required.

We welcome a degree in Computer Science or a related field, as well as equivalent professional experience.

Our Interview Approach

Our technical interviews focus on practical engineering judgment, product thinking, and a small application exercise where AI tools are permitted. We provide a supported development environment and access to an approved AI assistant, so a personal paid subscription is not required.

Salary range: $140,000 - $225,000
