About the role

About Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multiculturalism.

The Department of Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multiculturalism is responsible for fostering an environment that allows Queensland women to be economically secure. We work closely with other agencies, peak bodies, local leaders and the community to lift the living standards of Aboriginal communities and Torres Strait Islander communities. We facilitate an environment where multicultural communities want to call Queensland home by harnessing their skill and expertise and celebrating the cultural diversity of our State.

About our team

The Economic and Social Policy team leads the development of policy advice and reform initiatives that support economic outcomes for women and drive positive change for Queensland communities. The team works across government and with key stakeholders to provide evidence-based policy advice, undertake research and analysis, and contribute to strategic policy development and implementation.

Your new opportunity

As a Senior Policy Officer (AO6) within the Economic and Social Policy team, you will contribute to the development of strategic policy advice and reform initiatives through high-quality research, analysis and stakeholder engagement. You will prepare reports, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence, while supporting the delivery of policy priorities and government commitments.

In this role, you will

  • Undertake research into complex Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy issues and provide analysis and recommendations to inform government policy and decision-making.
  • Identify and monitor emerging policy issues and trends impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.
  • Develop strategic policy advice, policy options and reform initiatives to support government priorities.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with senior government representatives, peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence on complex policy matters.
  • Contribute to the effective governance and operation of the Strategic Policy and Legislation Branch.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture through the application of performance management, workplace health and safety, and equal employment opportunity principles.

To be successful you will bring

  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical and evidence-based policy solutions.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to policy development, including identifying opportunities for improvement and challenging existing approaches where appropriate.
  • Well-developed organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic policy environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with demonstrated experience researching, analysing and providing high-quality policy advice.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and build productive relationships across government and with external stakeholders.
