About the role

About BMD

BMD is Australia's leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development business. As the largest privately owned civil contractor in Australia, BMD is at the forefront of excellence.

Over a 45-year history, BMD has grown to become a $2.4 billion operation, now sharing our expertise internationally in the Philippines and the UK.

About the Project

The Tram to Springvale Alliance (TSA), made up of BMD Constructions, CPB Contractors and Arup, is delivering the Eastern Freeway Upgrades between Tram and Springvale roads. The works include new express lanes, upgraded noise walls, and revitalised areas of the Koonung Creek Linear Park.

The project is being delivered under an Alliance Contract with Victoria Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA), forming a single, collaborative team.

As part of the North East Link Program (NELP), the upgrade will improve safety and efficiency for over 135,000 daily vehicles, remove 15,000 trucks from local roads, and reduce traffic across the Yarra River by 50,000 vehicles per day.

We’re completing the link together and bringing it home for our community.

The Role

As Senior Permit Coordinator, you'll be the go-to person for permit coordination across the project, leading the delivery and ongoing improvement of the Permit to Work system to ensure high-risk construction activities are planned, authorised and carried out safely.

Working across the Eastern Freeway corridor between Doncaster and Nunawading with construction teams, subcontractors, utility providers and alliance partners, you'll provide leadership and support to Permit Coordinators, manage permit interfaces across multiple work fronts, and help maintain a consistent, practical approach to permit compliance across the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the project's Permit to Work system
  • Support construction teams working around underground and overhead services
  • Review and issue permits, ensuring compliance and safe delivery of works
  • Conduct site inspections and work closely with utilities stakeholders
  • Mentor and support Permit Coordinators and project teams
  • Drive improvements and digital enhancements to project permit systems

About You

  • Experience in permit coordination, utility management, permit-to-work systems or a similar construction-based role
  • Strong experience working around live underground and overhead utility services
  • Ability to interpret utility drawings and communicate utility provider requirements effectively
  • Well-developed stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership skills
  • RIICCM202E - Identify, Locate and Protect Underground Services (or equivalent) qualification

What We Offer

  • Be part of a nationally respected contractor with a strong local presence
  • Benefit from job security, competitive salary, and long-term project pipeline
  • Clear career progression and ongoing professional development
  • Collaborate with top-tier delivery partners in a high-impact alliance
  • Contribute to a legacy project shaping Melbourne’s future
  • Be recognised at our annual employee awards event and through our Thrive reward and recognition platform
  • Access wellness programs, strong work-life balance initiatives, paid parental leave, retail discounts, industry training and memberships & more
