🌅 Why Thursday Island?

Thursday Island (Waiben) offers an exceptional tropical lifestyle in the heart of the Torres Strait, where stunning ocean views, year-round warm weather and a strong sense of community create a unique place to live and work. As the administrative and cultural hub of the Torres Strait, the island is rich in Torres Strait Islander heritage, with vibrant traditions, art, music and community events that celebrate the region's unique identity.

Surrounded by crystal-clear waters and picturesque islands, residents enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, island hopping, snorkelling and exploring local historical sites. Despite its remote location, Thursday Island has excellent facilities including schools, shops, cafes, sporting amenities and essential government services, offering the perfect balance of professional opportunity, cultural connection and relaxed island living.

🩺 About the role:

This is an opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care while enjoying the unique lifestyle and rich culture of the Torres Strait. Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will manage a diverse clinical caseload, provide evidence-based care across a range of settings and build meaningful relationships with patients, families and communities.

Make a meaningful impact as part of a collaborative rural healthcare team, leading the delivery of comprehensive obstetric and women's health services that support better outcomes for women, babies and families while delivering high-quality, culturally responsive care across Torres and Cape communities.

Whether you're looking to broaden your clinical experience, develop professionally or make a genuine difference in a unique and rewarding environment, this role offers the chance to have a lasting impact while working in one of Australia's most remarkable regions.

🌿 What we're looking for — someone who:

  • is competent in rural and remote obstetric practice and wants their work to genuinely matter
  • is respectful and community‑aware and passionate about delivering culturally safe care
  • is encouraging and steady for colleagues and is broad‑skilled and adaptable
  • has current full registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia
  • has a Fellowship in General Practice (FACRRM or FRACGP) and/or a Rural Generalist qualification or has commenced a recognised General Practitioner or Rural Generalist pathway leading to FRACGP, FACRRM, FARGP or FRACGP-RG

🏡 What's on offer:

  • Torres and Cape will give you a career with purpose
  • Total remuneration value of $409,980 –$612,865 (L13–L27)
  • Base salary between $193,191–$282,5912 (L13–L27) plus excellent benefits and allowances
  • Employer superannuation contribution of 12.75% plus salary packaging
  • and more!

Join our Thursday Island team today and help deliver exceptional healthcare to our rural and regional communities. Do more than just medicine—do it all!
