About the role

Your Impact at LILA

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Scientific System of Record to lead the team building the user-facing surfaces and core applications that form Lila’s laboratory information management system (LIMS).

You will lead a team of engineers responsible for building the systems that scientists, technicians, and AI agents use to plan, execute, capture, and understand scientific work. You’ll work closely with scientists, product leaders, ML researchers, data engineers, automation engineers, and platform teams to turn complex laboratory workflows into intuitive, reliable, and scalable software.

The Scientific System of Record team builds the memory layer for Lila’s operations. It connects scientific intent to physical reality by capturing experimental plans, samples, protocols, executions, results, and operational context, creating the foundation for reproducibility and closing the Design-Build-Test-Learn loop.

As the Sr. Manager leading the LIMS surfaces, you will set technical direction, grow the team, shape the roadmap, and ensure we deliver software that is exceptional to use and trustworthy as the system of record for Lila’s scientific operations.

What You'll Be Building

  • Lead development of interfaces and applications for samples, experiments, protocols, workflows, results, and lab operations.
  • Set technical direction across front-end, backend, APIs, and data architecture.
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team through hiring, coaching, mentorship, and career development.
  • Partner with product and scientific stakeholders to define priorities and translate ambiguity into engineering plans.
  • Ensure LIMS surfaces integrate with automation, data, ML, and platform systems.
  • Establish engineering practices for correctness, auditability, traceability, provenance, and reliability.
  • Align engineering, science, product, automation, and operations teams to drive initiatives into production.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including leading engineering teams and delivering production software.
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience, with a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining engineers.
  • Strong technical depth in full-stack application development and architecture.
  • Experience designing and operating APIs, databases, and distributed production systems.
  • Experience building products for complex, workflow-driven, or data-intensive environments.
  • Strong product sense and ability to translate scientific and operational needs into intuitive software.
  • Excellent communication skills across technical, scientific, and cross-functional audiences.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with TypeScript, React, and Python.
  • Experience designing systems that support auditability, traceability, reproducibility, data provenance, or regulated workflows.
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, containerization, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with orchestration and workflow systems such as Flyte, Temporal, Airflow, Prefect, or similar technologies.
  • Experience building software platforms that bridge digital workflows and physical-world operations.

Compensation

We offer competitive base compensation with bonus potential and generous early-stage equity. Your final offer will reflect your background, expertise, and expected impact.

U.S. Benefits. Full-time U.S. employees receive a comprehensive benefits program including medical, dental, and vision coverage; employer-paid life and disability insurance; flexible time off with generous company wide holidays; paid parental leave; an educational assistance program; commuter benefits, including bike share memberships for office based employees; and a company subsidized lunch program.

International Benefits. Full-time employees outside the U.S. receive a comprehensive benefits program tailored to their region. USD salary ranges apply only to U.S.-based positions; international salaries are set to local market.

Expected Base Salary Range

$192,000—$256,000 USD
