About the role

At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock and inspire performance for life. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives. Our wearable technology and personalized insights help people optimize recovery, sleep, training, and overall health. As we continue to expand globally, ensuring our products meet evolving environmental regulations is critical to delivering innovative hardware to members around the world.

We’re looking for a Senior Global Environmental Compliance Specialist to lead WHOOP’s global environmental product compliance. In this role, you’ll own the strategy, execution, and continuous evolution of our environmental compliance framework, ensuring our products meet global regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle while enabling rapid innovation and worldwide market access.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure WHOOP’s products meet environmental compliance standards in all current and planned global markets, including regulations such as RoHS, REACH, California Proposition 65, SCIP, POPs, battery, and packaging requirements.
  • Lead regulatory reporting, product declarations, and data submissions to ensure timely and accurate compliance across global markets.
  • Partner with Hardware, Operations and other cross-functional teams to ensure environmental compliance requirements are considered throughout product development, from concept through end of life.
  • Collaborate with Global Supply Management and suppliers to communicate evolving regulatory requirements, collect compliance documentation, and improve supplier readiness.
  • Monitor the global regulatory landscape, assess business impact, and provide recommendations that proactively address emerging environmental requirements.
  • Develop and improve compliance processes, documentation, and operational procedures that scale with WHOOP’s product portfolio.
  • Manage environmental compliance data and documentation within compliance management systems, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through automation.
  • Develop and maintain Bio-compatibility testing standards as appropriate for wearable products. Ensure the team understands requirements applicable to each product and incorporates appropriate bio-compatibility tests early in development.
  • Partner with cross functional teams to satisfy Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations across global markets, including WEEE, Battery, and Packaging waste management registration, data reporting, and Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) management.
  • Support company initiatives related to voluntary environmental standards and sustainability programs.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science. Preferred: Materials focused degree or research.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing global environmental compliance for consumer electronics, wearables, or other hardware products.
  • Strong working knowledge of global environmental regulations, including RoHS, REACH, TSCA, California Proposition 65, SCIP, POPs, battery, and packaging requirements.
  • Experience managing environmental compliance data, documentation, and regulatory reporting using compliance management systems such as Greensoft or equivalent tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical engineering and operational requirements.
  • Experience partnering across Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, and Legal to drive compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting voluntary environmental standards or sustainability certification programs.
