Who is Shift?

At Shift, our unique approach to product innovation combined with our collaborative culture means you can build your career in a supportive environment. You’ll be joining a diverse team of over 300 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for Australian businesses.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Front End Engineer with a passion for React and TypeScript, as well as a solid understanding of back-end development. In this role, you will collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and back-end engineers to create intuitive, high-quality user experiences, making a real impact on how our customers interact with our products.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and enhance high-quality, polished user interfaces using React and TypeScript
  • Optimize user flows and apply strong product and design thinking to every feature
  • Integrate with APIs and back-end services, and contribute to back-end development as needed
  • Collaborate with the team to shape and deliver new features based on user needs
  • Help ensure the reliability, maintainability, and scalability of our platforms
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions
  • Advocate for best practices in code quality, testing, accessibility, and continuous improvement

What You’ll Bring

  • 6+ years of experience building production software, with a strong emphasis on front-end development
  • Advanced skills in React and TypeScript within production environments
  • Back-end development experience in any language, with a solid understanding of front-end and back-end integration
  • Experience working with APIs and microservices
  • A keen eye for detail and strong product instincts
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working effectively across teams
  • A proactive mindset, comfortable with autonomy and taking ownership
  • Ideally, experience with Azure, DevOps tooling, or C#/.NET, though not required

Key benefits

  • Hybrid working: we’re headquartered in North Sydney with state-based workplaces and offer a hybrid work policy. Our offices have spaces for collaboration, socialising and focused work.
  • Parental leave: up to 26 weeks paid.
  • Strategy Week: twice a year the whole team comes together to hear the business strategy and product and technology roadmap first-hand, with fortnightly all-company business updates in between.
  • Flat structure: everyone can learn from each other and senior leaders across the business.
  • Wellbeing: benefits supporting your physical, psychological and financial wellbeing, from a day off on your birthday to end of trip facilities.

If you don’t meet all the qualifications or skills but think you’d be a great fit, please apply anyway.
