About the role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Risk Team. In this role, you’ll serve as a liaison between Individual Life Underwriting and Corporate partners, providing specialized underwriting expertise to evaluate potential risk, investigate concerns, and support fraud-risk mitigation.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Estimated Salary: $86,000 - $105,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
  • Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details.
  • Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Evaluate underwriting referrals involving MIB and medical data, provide recommendations, and determine when further investigation or referral to the Special Investigations Unit is appropriate.
  • Conduct forensic underwriting reviews including background checks, medical record reviews, and post-issue analysis related to individual cases or underwriting programs.
  • Partner with Underwriting Leaders and Compliance to review Department of Insurance inquiries and state regulatory actions and coordinate responses from the Individual Underwriting department.
  • Conduct contestable claims reviews to identify potential material misrepresentation and communicate findings to the Claims department.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource to Individual Life Underwriting teams and other Corporate partners on medical and financial underwriting processes, requirements, tools, and procedures.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Significant experience in Individual Life underwriting, with a strong understanding of medical and financial underwriting processes.
  • Experience evaluating complex or escalated underwriting cases, including reviewing medical information and identifying potential risk concerns.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate information from multiple sources and make sound underwriting recommendations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Underwriting, Claims, Compliance, and other business partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to document and communicate findings clearly.
  • You promote a collaborative culture, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

PREFERRED

  • Experience with fraud-risk identification, forensic underwriting, or Special Investigations.
  • Experience with contestable claims reviews or post-issue underwriting analysis.
  • Experience working with Department of Insurance inquiries or state regulatory matters.
