This role is responsible for managing onsite execution during the second shift, including coordination of trades, sequencing of work, quality control, and progress against the project schedule.

The Project Manager will serve as Align’s onsite point of contact during the second shift, working closely with contractors, client representatives, and the daytime project team to keep construction activities moving and ensure a clear handoff between shifts.

The ideal candidate has construction management experience and an understanding of infrastructure such as containment systems, overhead conveyance including ladder racks and cable trays structural supports, electrical distribution, and cooling components. Candidates with experience in commercial, industrial, electrical, or low-voltage construction are encouraged to apply. Previous data center experience is preferred but is not required.

  • This is a full-time salaried position offering competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, paid time off, paid training, and performance-based bonuses.
  • This position is based in the Detroit metro area and requires working onsite during the second shift, approximately 4:00 p.m. to midnight.
  • Approximately 50% travel outside the Ann Arbor area should be expected at times, depending on project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead second-shift onsite construction activities for data center white space fit-out projects
  • Coordinate with the daytime project team before each shift to review priorities, scheduled work, contractor coverage, and outstanding issues
  • Oversee installation of:
  • Structural hot aisle / cold aisle containment systems
  • Overhead cable tray systems and ladder racks
  • Structural supports for cabinets, racks, cable trays, and electrical power distribution infrastructure
  • Cooling infrastructure, including HVAC units
  • Power distribution from PDU to cabinet level
  • Manage trade contractors and coordinate work sequencing to maintain the schedule and avoid conflicts between installation activities
  • Serve as the primary onsite contact during the second shift for general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and client stakeholders
  • Enforce quality control processes to ensure installations meet approved drawings, specifications, load requirements, and applicable standards
  • Monitor progress against the project schedule, identify delays or field issues, and coordinate resolutions with the project team
  • Track labor, materials, and potential scope changes affecting assigned work; communicate budget impacts to project leadership
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements and site protocols throughout the shift
  • Review construction drawings, submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings to address installation questions and coordinate required clarifications
  • Coordinate field checks of installation tolerances, anchoring, and overhead support systems against approved requirements
  • Maintain daily reports, progress photos, issue logs, and punch lists
  • Support inspections, commissioning, and turnover activities
  • Provide a documented handoff to the daytime team covering completed work, schedule updates, unresolved issues, and upcoming priorities

Required Qualifications

  • Construction project management or field leadership experience, including responsibility for onsite contractor coordination and work execution
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple contractors, coordinate trades, and maintain construction schedules
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and installation details
  • Working knowledge of construction sequencing, quality control, and jobsite safety practices
  • Project management skills, including scheduling, progress tracking, documentation, and cost awareness
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to resolve field issues and escalate matters requiring additional approval
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with contractors, clients, and project stakeholders
  • Ability to work onsite consistently during the second shift, approximately 4:00 p.m. to midnight, and travel as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in data center, commercial, industrial, electrical, mechanical, or low-voltage construction
  • Familiarity with white space fit-outs, containment, overhead conveyance, structural supports, electrical distribution, or cooling infrastructure
  • Familiarity with structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure
  • Procore experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting commissioning and turnover of construction projects
