About the role

Help shape the financial decisions behind Fitzroy District's transport infrastructure program.

Are you an experienced finance professional who can turn complex information into clear, practical advice while bringing out the best in a team?

Transport and Main Roads is seeking a Project Advisor (Finance) to join the Program Support team in Rockhampton. In this permanent, flexible AO5 role, you will lead six direct reports and help ensure Fitzroy District's financial, governance and business support services remain accurate, responsive and well controlled.

About the role

You will support the delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program and broader district priorities through effective financial management, reporting, assurance and resource coordination. Working closely with managers, project teams and other stakeholders, you will provide sound advice, identify emerging issues and support informed decision-making.

You will also undertake the role of Deputy Continuity Coordinator, helping the district prepare for, respond to and recover from events that may disrupt critical operations.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • lead day-to-day priorities and workload allocation across the Business Support team
  • coach and support team members while promoting consistent, accountable service delivery
  • provide advice on budgeting, financial systems, reporting, contracts and related business processes
  • coordinate forecasts, reconciliations, budget reviews, end-of-month activities and financial returns
  • monitor financial performance and identify risks, pressures and emerging issues
  • support financial governance, internal controls, assurance activities and service related contract oversight
  • contribute to business continuity planning, exercises, activations, recovery and continuous improvement.

About you

You combine strong financial management and analytical skills with practical leadership experience. You can manage competing priorities, explain financial information clearly and build productive relationships with managers, team members and stakeholders.

You will also bring an understanding of governance, risk, internal controls and business continuity. A current Class C driver licence is required, and a criminal history check will be undertaken before appointment due to the role's access to sensitive information.

Why join us?

You will join an inclusive workplace that supports career development and a healthy work-life balance. The role provides the opportunity to:

  • lead and develop an established team
  • influence important financial and operational decisions
  • broaden your experience across finance, governance, contracts and business continuity
  • contribute to transport infrastructure delivery across Central Queensland
  • access flexible work arrangements, superannuation and leave loading benefits.

If you are ready to take ownership of important financial and business support functions while helping a team deliver reliable services, we encourage you to apply.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
