What You'll Get to Do

The Production Supervisor – Continuous Improvement (Engineering Focus) is a hands-on leadership role responsible for improving CRL's metal fabrication operations through engineering analysis, structured problem solving, and frontline leadership. Supporting production areas including CNC machining, ELU equipment, and downstream fabrication processes, this position is responsible for driving operational excellence by analyzing data, identifying bottlenecks, improving workflows, reducing waste, and implementing sustainable process improvements. Working closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance teams, the Supervisor II leads continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, labor efficiency, quality, scrap reduction, cycle time improvement, equipment performance, and process standardization. This role provides leadership, coaching, and accountability for production teams while leveraging Lean Manufacturing principles, structured problem-solving methodologies, and data-driven decision making to improve safety, productivity, and overall manufacturing performance across the value stream.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise production teams across assigned manufacturing areas, ensuring daily safety, quality, productivity, labor utilization, and performance objectives are achieved while providing coaching and development to frontline employees.
  • Enforce safety policies, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and machine-specific safety standards while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing and structured problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, DMAIC, PDCA, and 8D to reduce waste, improve throughput, and resolve operational challenges.
  • Conduct time studies, capacity analysis, bottleneck identification, root cause investigations, and workflow assessments while developing and maintaining standard work, work instructions, visual controls, and training materials.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance teams to improve equipment performance, support tooling and fixture enhancements, reduce setup times, troubleshoot technical issues, and improve material flow throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators including throughput, labor efficiency, scrap, downtime, OEE, and schedule attainment while developing reports and dashboards that support data-driven decision making.
  • Lead improvement and capital projects from concept through implementation, including data collection, solution development, validation, reporting, equipment installation, startup activities, and cross-functional coordination.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Mechanical and technical expertise
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, machining, industrial operations, continuous improvement, engineering, or production leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and driving productivity, quality, waste reduction, process optimization, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma principles, structured problem-solving methodologies, and data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to analyze manufacturing data, interpret KPIs, read engineering drawings and technical documentation, and translate findings into actionable solutions.
  • Experience with CNC machining, laser cutting, waterjet cutting, Amada, Trumpf, routing, ELU equipment, or similar fabrication technologies preferred; Lean Six Sigma certification, CAD, ERP, nesting software, and statistical analysis experience are highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills with the ability to work extensively on the production floor, comply with all safety requirements, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
